My local retailer has a AC/DC Luci for sale $6990, I hear nothing but great things about this pin but I've only played the pro and while I don't hate AC/DC I'm not really a fan either (more of a Black Sabbath, Slayer type of fella). Anyway any advice would be great. I can't get him to open it up for a trial so I would have to buy NIB and hope for the best, will I be able to get past the theme? Is it that good? Let me know THANKS

#2 10 years ago

I wouldn't drop that kind of coin without playing it first. While many people prefer the way the premium/LEs play, this isn't true for everyone. Some feel that the crossover ramp, drop targets and lower playfield actually make the game less fun. I suggest you find a premium and put some time on it so you can make an educated decision.

AC/DC is one of the best pins in years.

Add the Luci art and you have a great combo for sure.

I have wrestled with this question myself and I know 2 things for certain....
1. I would love it!
2. My wife would hate it!

have you played 50 games on an AC/DC? If not, go play some first, before you decide. 6900 is a lot. I could have got one for $6200 NIB. Shop around more, you can find a better price than that. Just noticed you were in CA, so there I don't know. If that's 6900 CA dollars, then.....well, it's still expensive because our money is worth the same now.

#7 10 years ago

I love it... my wife loves it.

Get it now... run, don't walk

#8 10 years ago

Agree... that price is high.

Save some dough and get the "real" Premium

No, Canadian dollar has dropped recently, currently about 91 cents to US dollar. Getting one in the U.S. and dealing with customs, exchange, etc. will end up being about the same or more.

Luci the real LE! game is awesome!

#12 10 years ago

Just got called, mine arrives tomorrow! Hopefully will be able to get it setup and played this weekend.

Its the same price here for the Luci and The Premium, would rather have the girl on the translite than Angus Young.

#14 10 years ago

My cannon stopped working on my Luci already but, she was fricking amazing up to that point!

#15 10 years ago

Get it, you wont regret it. I love Luci more every day!

Th band is all over the playfield. Just be honest you would rather look at shirtless old dudes as opposed to some animated hot chic. Lol

Good luck figuring out ACDC in 50 games.

#20 10 years ago

didn't say he'd figure it out in 50 games, but it takes about 50 games before someone knows if a game is right for them or not.

I've had people over and they just seem confused after playing it. If he can go by someone's house who has one and let them explain some of the rules that may help.

To the OP. If you like fast games with a unique rule set then you can't go wrong with acdc. That is unless u hate the band.

#22 10 years ago

Get the premium, doesn't matter that the pin is ugly. It's great and you can change out the songs!

I have 3 different versions now, and yep, next one is going to be a country rock song Ac/dc!

Pick up one of these low play premiums that come up all the time for a whole lot less and like Smassa says, good luck figuring it out in 50 games. I still haven't figured out fully!

If I wanna look at hot chicks I can look at my girlfriend....or porn lol. I like my AC/DC pin to look like an AC/DC pin. I think they look cool on the Premium translite. It captures the energy of the game, IMO. It fits with the rest of the art package. Luci is just some generic and not very well drawn cartoon chick, IMO. It feels like a gaudy mod...but from the factory....clearly people like it though, so it's great we have a choice. I'm glad I don't like it so my Premium can stay put and I don't have to sell 'n re-buy.

I took AC/DC to Gencon and set it up in the hotel room. After I explained that each song shows you what you should shoot for and how the song jackpot was cashed in, people understood fairly easy. And none of them are pinball people.

Exactly cause you explained it to them. Just telling someone to go play it 50 times without someone to explain it really wouldn't accomplish much but maybe to confuse him even more.

Just got Luci last week and I love it! Game is very addictive and very challenging. Do it!

that's pretty much true with any newer stern. Good luck anyone figuring out LOTR or TSPP after even 100 games.

Yes.........My ACDC is my all time favorite.

I agree couldn't have said it any better

#31 10 years ago

7,000 is way to much for an ACDC.

Get a HUO premium for $5600 or so. Good luck

#32 10 years ago

Too much money.. Just buy a premium..

#33 10 years ago

Bowen does a pretty good job explaining the gameplay on his vid for AC/DC and I would enjoy figuring it out. It's just the theme, now that I know I can swap out songs it might seal the deal. Damn pinball, it's costing me a lot of money.

Love the band AC/DC but the pinball machine just did not float my boat. You asked for input . Get what you like. But I would pass personally on AC/DC . And look for X-Men pro or X-Men L.E.

Not as easy in Canada as the States, very rarely do LE's or Premiums come up and when they do usually the same or more than original cost. I know a second run of Premiums are coming but will cost the same as Luci. Hmmmmmm
I'm going to play the pro tomorrow just for an idea of gameplay. If I had any patience when it comes to pinball I could hold out for a deal but that's not going to happen.

How much is it to ship to Canada from the states? Also was 7,000 shipped?

#37 10 years ago

Got my cannon working again, the game is kick ass(and it kicks your ass). Just get one.

7000 NIB delivered and assembled in my house. I know there isn't much to the unboxing but they do everything, I bought my STLE from these guy's it's a big company up here. Not to sound like a big shot but money isn't really a concern it's the theme of the game that's holding me back.

If the theme doesnt do it for you i'd pass. I wasnt a huge fan of ACDC growing up but really got more into their music after owning the pin. There isnt anything out there that really compares to the style of play. I could have just 1 pin and be totally happy.

#40 10 years ago

7k plus tax or included? If it's included that's not terrible considering you're at 13% (I think)

Kinda agree with RareHero on the Luci thing...there's a little to much cheese factor for my liking. Hellen looks MUCH better and seems to fit the theme better. Although everyone says Luci looks better in person

Go grab one of these $5700 HUO machines that are littered in the marketplace and the Hellen translight. Then you actually have a choice on which way you want the machine to look. ACDC seems to be on the decline now and there are a ton out there in private collecting that were bought NIB

Or wait until MM payments are due in a couple months...more will probably surface

#41 10 years ago

With regard to pricing, it's a fair quote for Canada and there aren't any alternatives. Buying anything from the States, you have to include 10% for the currency exchange, another 13% taxes paid at the border, and shipping/time and effort/gas to get it here.
Trust me, I've done the math. Local purchase is the only way to go.
$6990+13% = $7900 CDN
Or buy one from the US for $5700 = $7085 after exchange and taxes. Add shipping (unless it's right at the border and you can go get it yourself) and you're not saving that much money in the end. On top of that, the NIB purchase from the distributor includes delivery and setup and warranty.

AC/DC is fun. My wife likes it and she is not a fan of the band. I like the Luci side BG and cabinet but not the added chicks on the playfield. Doesn't match the rest of the artwork IMO.

#43 10 years ago

Get the Premium. Don't care much for the Lucy. If you don't like the song selection, switch it out. Make it your own! Mod the "Hell" out of it! Shaker motor and 10" powered sub are a must! Enjoy!

Mainly I think yours going back up, ours staying stagnant.

I was back and forth on getting the "regular" premium vs the Luci. Ultimately I went with Luci because I wanted something that looked different. I was never a big fan of the regular Premium logo side art, I think the Luci has a good 70s artwork vibe which did more for me. As you say though, great that there is a choice.

I just bought bnib STLE and AC/DC Luci. I was originally going to take an AC/DC Premium, but after looking at countless photos, opted for the Luci - and glad I did. The Luci art package really pops in person, and personally, I'd rather look at Luci than Angus XD

The money is in the gameplay however, and AC/DC really delivers. STLE is exhilarating, but comparatively AC/DC has so much more to do and master with the depth of the rules, the fact that each song forces you to make different shots and combos, and of course the music.

If you're buying in Canada, I highly recommend Jerry Power at Playdium/Starburst.

I deal with Jerry and Adam at the Playdium, I have to meditate now on whether or not I can get past the theme. I know you can change the songs but there is still photos of band on the playfield and the dancing plastic thing. I really need some time on the Pin first, trying to find someone local (Toronro) where I can give it a shot. Thanks

Rubberfist the above post is not helpful as I am trying to talk myself out of buying Luci.., and when I read posts like yours above it starts tipping me back towards her

Woohoo! My Luci and ST LE just arrived. Good timing too, right as the way too close Canadian/Latvia hockey game ended.
