If he buys it and doesn't like it, he can sell it for not much less than he has in it based on the current pin economy. Maybe the same or more if he holds onto it for awhile. While I agree if he has the chance he should play it first, it is hardly a $4K+ mistake...
Looking out to a year or two from now is pretty much impossible though. It could go up in value or it could go down. Nobody knows for sure. No matter what he isn't going to be out $4K.
