I've got a Pinbot with the same overlay. It plays fine. Yes, apply something to make it stick and lay flat like a clear coat over the area and you should be fine.

I'm currently clear coating an entire playfield for a Dr. Dude. I also did a Diner pinball last year and it came out great using Minwax PolyCrylic clear gloss spray. It's water based and wont' yellow and it cures hard and smooth. It works great and doesn't make the edge of overlay decals turn black!!
