So let me start by saying HOLY WIREFORMS. Anyone ever shop one? Where can I put/not put LEDs. Any advice on the WIREFORMS? Any particular order to go in? Thanks for the tips..

Capcoms don't work with LEDs. I don't know if anything has been made to make them work yet (admittedly, since our second son was born 9 months ago and is a super light sleeper, I haven't done much of anything with my pins, so maybe there is a solution), but LEDs just go nuts in Capcoms.
My tip - go really slow and be careful. I was doing my best to repair something on my Airborne and I broke a plastic piece that seems to be unobtainable. *sigh*
Capcom used a lamp warming feature that isn't very compatible with LEDs. I'd stick with incandescents.
The bent clear plastic near the optos where the turnaround ramps are right in the middle. Anyone got one, I have no idea how to reassemble after I put I back on, but I'd take much longer next time!
Take a ton of pics and video. Did this a year ago and it is a beast. Too many pics is ok. Label everything.
You'll quickly discover that you need to work from the top-rear on down. Take a lot of pictures and you'll be fine. If you go as far as stripping most of the top of the playfield, you might consider changing out the optos that are in the two front scoops while you have it all apart. I didn't, when I did mine, and now one side is out and I'm going to need to remove a whole ton of stuff to get to them.
This was the hardest game I have ever shopped out. My shop out thread is here: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/airborne-shop-out-help-needed
Also, if you need pics, my photo album from that shop out is here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/91696572@N00/albums/72157637650498843
Feel free to ask any questions. The clear plastic "cage" in the center near the scoops un unobtainable. Mine was pretty destroyed.

Capcoms (aside from breakshot) used dual lamp matrixes. IE every lamp is cpu controlled. Even without the warm feature causing flickering you lose a lot more by switching capcoms to leds. Supposedly someone is testing a board now to handle leds, but the cost is going to be much much higher than it is for B/W/Stern
Quoted from the96stang:How do you get the playfield into a good spot to shop it out?

This is how I did it (this post is on a Pinball Magic, but the process was the same)

I finished my Airborne shopout this days.
It is a beautifull machine with all its chrome.
I chromed the wireramps new, also all screws and metalparts became new galvanised.
The playfield was in great condition, just cleaned and clearcoated it. All plastics were okay. Cabinett is also a beauty. The big minus on my machine was: rust .... it was HUO but was stored for years in a wet enviroment.
Came with perfect manual and a "warranty paper".
There is nothing special on this renovation, mounting the ramps and wireramps and the big aircraft in the middle took me a while.

Quoted from DMC:Looks beautiful. Just need herg's OCD for Capcom and some mirror blades and it will be perfect.
It certainly does look great!! I love me some Airborne. I think the OCD board is still in its testing phase. Would mirror blades work in this capcom pin?? That's an interesting idea....plenty of metal ramps to reflect off of.
I had a look at this OCD , not my world.
I am "old school" . If a pin had bulbs, I use bulbs. If a pin has LED´s ... I like LED´s (expect GOT PRO ... too flashy). But Herge is investing time and good ideas in our hobby, I hope that board will become available and save many Capcom´s and make some guys happy with LEDs !!
Expect the lamp sockets and some mechanics all metall parts became re-plated. As I wrote, this machine was bought as HUO (but I do not trust that magic three letters !!) but was stored in a wet cellar or garage. Rust all over ... so replaiting was the choice and clearcoating the playfield cause it was/is in great shape. I had not to touch any color ... just cleaned and clearcoated.
All cabinet armor was also new coated with black powder. The chrome job was "for free" from the guy I bought the machine from. By mistake 2 gates were black chrome coated .. however , looks also great .
Mirror blades might be a nice idea.
Airborne has a phantastic gameplay if you like the straight rules. I am wondering, years ago I have had a Pinball Magic and sold it due the straight gamerulez .... on Airborne I like them. Strange.
Just waiting for 1.6 ROMs now.
Yesterday I picked up the apron from the painter. I removed the stickers, sanded the rusty apron, painted it black, reassembled the
stickers and coated them.
Also the shopout decals are redone and brought on
This really puts my Airborne to shame.
Beautiful machine! I too prefer regular bulbs, especially with the fading that Capcom does in their games.
Again, great work!
Chris
Hi Chris
Thank you for your kind words, there is no reason to put your machine "to shame".
Nothing is better as an unshopped, nice original game. I was only in the bad situation that the machine was so rusty
and really needet some work. In it all it took me 6 weeks.
I saw that you are a real Capcom fan ! Very nice collection !!
Today I bought also a Breakshot with playfield wear .... its from Austria, I live in Germany but looking forward to get it to my home within the next weeks. Its christmas time
Due to the wear spot on the playfield ... have to shop it also but this time only the playfield.
Cheers
Tom

Hey great work! Do you have digital files for the rule cards, free play card, fuse information, install 3 balls etc. stickers?...edit: just found the rule cards and free play on IPDB.
