You need to powder coat all the rubber rings too!
Hey, seriously though, is the ball on the end of the shooter rod metal? I guess it must be if it is powder coated. I have just not seen a shooter rod with a metal ball, only plastic... 
NM, answered my own Q. I guess these metal ones are just way above my pay grade! Yikes!
It could work, without binding. It is just going to be a pain to get the fit correct and find a sleeve that will fit. I am following this thread because I want to see the outcome from a hardware standpoint. For now, just remember. Opinions are like buttholes.
