Ship-Mates
Gottlieb, 1964I have a Ship-Mates (Gottlieb, 1964) and I feel a bit worried about a buzzing sound:
1. constantly from the back box
2. when the flippers are active (especially the right one)
Why is this and what can be done about it?

Those both sound like the plate not sitting quite right when energized; annoying, but not worrisome. You can track down the relays where it's happening and take off the plate and sand/clean it and where it hits the coil. Read more here: http://www.pinrepair.com/em/index3.htm#buzz
New flipper mechanism coil stops will help with the buzzing when you hold the flipper up, but I've never seen it completely eliminated. It really doesn't hurt anything as far as I can tell, more like sympathetic vibrations.
Thin plastic shims wedged under the hold relay works, don't ask me how I know.
