I made this JP jeep mod awhile back and finally installed it a few days ago. It has working amber headlights (to make it look like the jeep battery is low). And working red led brake lights! More mods to follow.

As far as I know, that's a custom job, not a commercially available product. On my infinitely long project list is converting a die cast Explorer for JP.

I have one of these Road Champs police Explorers that's a great size and will convert pretty well. I'll have to do some fancy modifications to get a roof window on, though.

@winteriscoming, you may well be right. Though I missed out on an ebay auction for 4 of them which looked like they were commercially done. I was outbid - they went for $100 !!!

They must have been produced at some point. I guess 20 odd years later they are going to be hard to find...

I actually got the same green super banks in my JP, I really like them! and they blend in very nice with green in the lower playfield.

Just finished my gate. Also got a Raptor hanging out back there. I think i need a spotlight on the gate and I'm not sure what to do with the top Bone Buster lights yet, for now there just red LED 555's.

Hello,

I just found this forum a few days ago while I was looking for some tips on how to repair a few things in my machine. I really like all your mods.

I'm a Jurassic Park pinball owner from Spain. So far I just changed a few things, but I'm planning on new mods.

Here's what I've done so far.

The original start button was missing in my machine (it was replaced by a green button) when I purchaseed it so I customized a red one

start_(resized).jpgstart_(resized).jpg

I replaced the captive ball. I did'nt want to pay 40$ for a powerball, so I used this one I already had instead. I'ts a bit smaller than a normal pinballl ball, but I like the color and I think it looks nice.

ball_(resized).jpgball_(resized).jpg

And finally I installed a led strip behind the "when dinosaurs ruled the earth" banner, so now it's backlit, and it also illuminates the background.

backgroud_(resized).jpgbackgroud_(resized).jpg

That's all so far.

This would be SOOOO sick if you could make it come up with that image of newman/elvis shaking his arm when ever the machine said that.

Not sure how much of a mod it is but about 3 years ago I customized an old JP playfield with a frame and lights and hung it on the wall. Came out pretty nice I think.

That is a quite a good (and relatively fast I assume) method to get a lit playfield on a wall.

Nice description from the vid : "This is a 1993 Jurassic Park Pinball Playfield that I stripped years
and years ago. I glued heavy black cardboard to the back to shut out
any light from inside - I used blue tape for any screw holes. I then
took a string of multi colored Christmas lights (programmable) and
stapled them so that there are two or more lights for each Light Hole.
I used rubber pipe insulation as a backframe to keep it away from the
wall."

I was trying to figure out a way I could light an old lethal weapon playfield I have myself.

Ok so I am adding a strip of LEDs to go behind the "when dinousaurs ruled the world".

I have a 12v DC strip and have the following questions:

1/ where is a good place to tap a 12v supply line? Ideally I want it to light up with the GI.
I tried tapping the GI but it is 6V so they are not that bright.

2/ Stupid question but will DC leds run on an AC current?

3/ Those of you who have done this mod - did you wire it up to the backbox or under the playfield?
Either way will be a bit of fun and games getting the cables threaded!!
I'm thinking to put the wires in the black cable tubes for protection - is this what you did?

Thanks!!

Get a multimeter and find a 12v source that is on all times in the game for the strip you have?(most modern led's will run ac or dc) I used 2 Comet pinballs MATRIX 20 SMD 8 Inch 6.3V Strip in amber $12.00 and soldered two together and ran up to back backbox , soldered to bare wire leads and used heat shrink and zip ty's to keep them in order, used a 3/4" 90 degree aluminum angle from hardware store $6.00 to stick them too and modded that to fit behind sign.. here is the result .. PM me if you want some behind the scene pics..or more info..?

I had an Amber strip in mine but did not care for the color nor the harsh reflections. Swapped in a 18" Comet frosted warm white strip, with the potentiometer, to let me fine tune the brightness. I am very happy with the result.

I simply alligator-clipped the strip into the GI in the backbox. I may eventually solder this in as a permanent mod.

lol, scroll through this thread, set a budget, start small with the cheap Jeep. Disregard said budget and keep buying everything cool!
I just got Tim's small crate and the Jeep, but have been to busy to install them and play.

Maybe start from scratch and install the new firmware that just came out on Friday as this fixes a bunch of issues

My favorite mods:

LEDS under the inserts, retained but refreshed the incandescents in the GI above the playfeld - I much prefer the warm glow to LEDS here. Then the Red superbright under the TRex saucer. Also added a warm white frosted LED strip behind the banner to brighten-up that end of the cabinet.
