Picked up a Shadow last weekend and have been putting a few games on it every evening. I have been getting air balls often when missing the left ramp. It has been happening less as I have been getting better at hitting the shot, but all bets are off when multi ball starts. I plan on replacing the flippers and rubbers this weekend as the current ones are in bad shape. Will this help the problem or is it just natural to get air balls from that shot?

I played this at a party recently and had the same experience when missing wide right. Later in the night I realized that the target on the left of the mouth of the ramp had a thick backing to it, but the one on the right didn't, which would likely cause it to launch balls up into the air. Is that your problem?

I have the same problem on my Shadow and you might want to try bending the target forward a bit and check the thickness of the foam backing behind each one. I was getting some pretty wicked air balls and ones that would fly over the flipper bat too!

I will have to take a look at it when I get home....I am getting them on either side of the ramp

I will check that out....If I hit the left side target from the ramp the ball will jump over the slingshot or in-line into the outlane....if I hit the right side target it will go over the flipper.

It's funny, if you ever watch Pinball 101, there's a segment in there that talks about using the diverters to create "spectacular air balls" or something like that, i always thought to myself, yeah thats kinda cool, but its not really a good thing, lol.

I do remember that too, but that doesn't drain the ball like the problem I am having...was a neat feature in the video that I don't plan on duplicating

When I got home and checked out the targets, the metal bracket that re-enforces the target was facing up....I have since bent it down, but the foam had come off before I had done this. I have ordered a new target switch assembly and the game is currently broken down awaiting new goodies. Hopefully I will get them in this weekend....and it fixes the issue.

I bent my targets forward a bit today. Haven't had a good ball launch yet. I think that fixed the issue.

You can hide a wood shim by pushing it down behind the targets to ensure they *stay* pointing down. This did it for me.

Also make sure you have an orange coil on the right flipper and a blue for the left (need the power for the steep right ramp).

Sorry for the late reply...I ordered a re-enforced switch....which is perpendicular to the playfield.....worked like a charm. Sure they fellow I sold it to a few months back is reaping the benefits of this fix.

Can you link the switches that you used? Link to part?

Had to find it in a post I made on the Shadow club...since I don't have the info or game anymore....

Part number is A-18530-6

I opted to buy the re-enforced version A-18530-6R from Marcos.....the foam was off mine and in pretty bad shape...should get this weekend so I can play again.

You can print the manual from ipdb.org....it's free
