So I acquired a fully populated original sexy girl playfield. Already had a cpr backglass. So I decided to make this project. I have a crappy playboy that is already being repaired and prepped for its new journey.

So I've been sanding filling. Sanding again. Reglued the front panel. Had to take out wood nails and glue the top board of the head. Getting good prepping for its new paint job.

so the cabinet is going to be painted, high metallic Candy apple red. So it needs leveler, then primer, then high metallic silver. Then the candy coat, then clear. Then stencils, and more clear. Auto paint is super expensive. Every layer is $100's. Just bought 1 qt of the candy red, and it was $300. but i think it's going to turn out phenomenal.

#9 3 years ago

first layer of primer is on. Have to do more glazing, filling, and more layers of primer. Has to be flawless when the metallic silver hits, or the silver will show every flaw with a 5X multiplier.

Head came out nice. I have to redo the cabinet sides. Didn't thin out my silver or candy enough. Got it down now.

When I saw the title to this thread, I expected that you were getting one of those sex robots.

maybe a cheaper one that needs restoration.

#25 3 years ago

yes, her vagin hangs down like sleeve of wizard.

#26 3 years ago

Well fawk me running. This cabinet has done this to me 4 times now. Tried sanding it. Did it again. Tried a thick clearcoat layer in between. Did it again. Tried different silver did it again. Head came out great. Front of the cab came out great. Sides . Not so much. About to reprime over this shit that has been hardcore sanded again.

IMG_20200810_211807566 (resized).jpgIMG_20200810_211807566 (resized).jpgIMG_20200810_211815930 (resized).jpgIMG_20200810_211815930 (resized).jpg
#27 3 years ago

Was told to try thin layers with 15 min between layers. Instead of 2 thicker layers. Shit did it to me again.

#29 3 years ago

Primed again. Let flash time sit. Tried first layer of silver. No reducer this time. Maybe it will let me this time. Waiting 15 min between layers again.

Finally doing the first color for the stencils. So far the main cabinet has been giving me problems. Had to recut stencils 5 times. Mainly because it's such a big piece I think I need 2 people

second layer will be silver, and have detail for the girls outlines. I was going to go with white at first, but i'm really worried the white will stand out too much when looking at the cabinet.

#38 3 years ago

maybe. I need to figure out the perfect amount of material to use, because right now, the vinyl i'm using has too high of tac and it's creating problems. and i'm having major issues aligning the second color, since I don't have guide markers.

#39 3 years ago

So the second color turned out to be a disaster. Couldn't get the sizes right because of it being a vector image, and doesn't use file edges for size. Then when I figured that out. Alignment was a nightmare because I don't use registration marks. This has to be redone. The silver turned out nice. With some pearl in it.

IMG_20200911_010053351 (resized).jpgIMG_20200911_010053351 (resized).jpgIMG_20200911_010103965 (resized).jpgIMG_20200911_010103965 (resized).jpg
#41 3 years ago

plus I just found out I have some low tac, semi transparent vinyl for stencils. So this might go easier now.

#43 3 years ago

So I finally got the head alignment correct. Found a semi transparent roll of stencil vinyl. Made alignment much easier. Turned out nice.

Cabinet turned out good. Tough to do alignment with such a big stencil.

Head has both sides done. Cabinet has both sides stenciled but have to clear the other side yet. Then should be ready for setting up.

first things first. I want to get it up and running and playing good first. Then I can modify as needed.

I may offer stencil sets to sell. Now that I have the transparent stuff, it was way easier lining up the second layer. I made markers that line up with the black outline, which made my registration much better and easier. then just masked off the cut out lineup areas before spraying.

Quoted from slochar:

No matter how good a game is eventually it gets tired. The major difference with Sexy Girl is it has a projector that showed slides in that big window, so people would play it to see the different (presumably) nudie slides that were in it.

the projector came with 3 different 8 track like cartridges. each one had like 80 pictures on them. One was no nudity, other was topless only, and the 3rd was full on bush. Which at that time, was like wearing underwear anyway.

Quoted from cait001:

OK, but I don't quite grasp the thinking. Someone looked at a Playboy machine and thought "ack, this isn't SEXY ENOUGH!"
Like maybe I could get it if it was taking a theme that bombed and redid it. But Playboy was a very popular theme, and all the conversion does it change the sexy girls up.

conversion kits were very popular in the 70's and 80's. It was a way for an OP to convert his games into something different, without having to pay the money for a new game. Conversions were normally cheaper. Especially in europe where most of these conversions were made. Many companies only made conversions. Geiger made many conversions, but you had to send your machine to them, and they would do the conversion. So they never sold "kits".

Quoted from jj44114:

Does yours have the original projector and any of the tapes?

I do not have the original projector or tapes. I'm working on designing a replacement that works off SD card. I found one that has the right distance throw, and looks good on the playfield when projected. Can run video and images. Problem is, is that is has a stupid start screen, that you have to select the input source manually. I need one that will automatically load and go into the flash drive/SD card and start reading pictures as soon as it's turned on. So I can have the game start the projector, and then have the game advance pictures. Unless i can overide this software so the start screen is bypassed. but that is out of my tech realm.

personally i hate the black crackle. Anything is better than that. Hence why I went the way I did.
