The wife and I battle for Grand Champion, High Score etc on our Twilight Zone. However, there is a differing opinion on whether the optional "buy-in" button should be incorporated at the end of regular play or not. If we set aside the unspoken rule that "wife is always right", then what do you all think?

Buy-In or No Buy-In?

#2 11 years ago

No buy in.

#3 11 years ago

I always say No Buy-In. The only time I see people use this is if they are really close to LITZ, and then it's just for laughs. Fortunately, the game keeps the Buy In/No Buy In high scores separately. The main reason this was added to games was to get more quarters out of players on location, nothing more.

Depends on what software you're running as non home editions don;t have a buy-in high score board. I always leave the buy in active so other people can use it. Let your lady buy in all she likes so she can have fun.

Still not as bad as setting replay awards to extra balls.

#7 11 years ago

If wifey needs extra balls let her have them.

#8 11 years ago

Extra balls are for the fun of it. Not for high scores.

#9 11 years ago

I disable my buy in button because it bugs me when it asks me if I want it and I know I won't ever use it. But the high scores should be different.

#10 11 years ago

Well, let's think about this. I would say if you ever want her OK to buy another pin--do whaT SHE WANTS. Putting aside the golden rule will come back to bite you in the ass. Put some icing on the cake. "Honey, I don't think that's right but I'm doing it cause I love you". Works every time even if they know its crap.

I have mine set to extra ball, but it's only one level, and I set it pretty dang high, too. I do this because I feel it's a kind of achievement and should you get to that replay score, you deserve an extra ball.

When I have mastered everything at the game's current difficulty level, I'll bump up the hardness and leave the replay score where it is, it'll still be harder. Then, when I've mastered the game at that level, I'll max everything else out to their hardest levels and still keep the replay=extra ball feature. When I master that, THEN I'll take away the replay=extra ball feature. At that point, I should be getting LITZ every game. Hey, it's all practice to help me get better and better.

Besides, it's my machine, I can do what I want with it.

Free advice....

The wife is always right

#14 11 years ago

Just be happy your wife actually likes pinball.

#15 11 years ago

No buy in! (From another wife who likes pinball.)

P.S. If a man says something and no woman is around to hear him, is he still wrong?

#16 11 years ago

Mine are disabled from the menu.....so know one even notices they are there.

This is sage advice...

#19 11 years ago

Extra balls in the playing of the game are fine.. buy ins no way. I disable them on my games.
