I just purchased a Lord of the Rings (2003) #LOTR machine and the default settings initiate each game with all three elf rings already collected, so the first shot to the One Ring starts a mode/scene. Is this how the game is supposed to start? Does anyone know which settings I could modify so the game starts with no rings collected and requires the player to collect the three elf rings before starting a mode? Thanks!

Did you reset the game to factory settings?

No rings should be collected if it is at factory settings....

Edit: I'm wrong. The elf rings are collected. Proof below

My lotrle has three elf rings at the start. Not sure how it is like that and I have never changed any ring settings.

Yes, that is normal for factory default. Each new ball starts with the 3 elf rings lit so you can start a mode.

If you want the additional challenge, I recall there being an adjustment so that you don't get spotted the 3 elf rings at the beginning of each ball. I don't recall if this harder setting also began the game without Mode start being lit.

Feature Adjustment #14:

RING MODE DIFFICULTY: Set to EASY, MODERATE, HARD or EXHARD. Default is EASY. Note: This adjustment controls how often the Ring Mode is lit. EASY = Lit at Ball Start. MODERATE = Lit at Game Start, with Memory. HARD = Off at Game Start, with Memory. EXTRA HARD = Off at Ball Start.

Has anyone posted a listing of popular settings, generally (other than factory default)? I did not see anything in the owner's club.

I keep a text file with what I change or experiment with on each pin to refer to them later, here are my LOTR notes:

SA=special audit
FA=feature audit

SA 4 replay levels (tiers of replays or EBs) ->1
SA 6 Special Award = EB
SA 9 EB Limit = Unlimited
SA 15 Tilt Warnings = 3
SA 29 High Score = 10 letters
SA 30 Free Play = Yes
SA 42 Coindoor Ball save = Yes
SA 49 Tech Alert = coint door and startup
SA 53, 54, 55, = 10, 40, 0 (minimum flipper power)
SA 3 replay award = EB => replay
FA 33 Cave Troll = ON
FA 34 = consolation Balrog = none
FA 36 = Extend attract = Yes
custom message hit right svc button at end

(Setting replay levels to 4 and replay award to EB gives ludicrous amount of EBs.)

Makes sense that it is default as that is in the lore. Nice attention to detail
