I just got the following letter from Williams today. This is bulls*&#!!! I didn't just spend $1899 on a brand new Whirlwind to not even have mylar applied at the factory. Where's the quality control Williams? This is the last straw for me. I won't be buying any new Williams games until they step up in the quality control department, and I'm going to let them know exactly how I feel. I'm sending them a strongly worded cable to WILCOIN CHICAGO right away.

Pull the warranty labels off the boards. That will really p*ss them off.

LTG : )

100% agree! They are really headed downhill.
My WW playfield has dimples all over it!!!

Williams has taken us all for granted for too long. The end is near - I give them 10 years from the date of this letter, tops

Where did you find that letter BTW? I find that kind of stuff really really cool

Be sure to call the 1800 #, I think Todd Tuckey has it

Will he fill my order for the $9 Whirlwind t-shirt advertised in attract sequence?

It was inside a game I bought. Pretty cool that it was still there after all this time. (And yes, the mylar had been applied.)

Kudos to Walter Smolucha for being accountable and signing his name to the letter.

I'm sure Walter's family would love to have that letter. It looks like he passed away in November 2002. Looks like he was also a WWII Navy Veteran: https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/name/walter-smolucha-obituary?pid=620474

He also holds some patents from Williams: https://patents.justia.com/assignee/williams-electronics-inc

I have no idea why I "rabbit-holed" on this...

You went down the wrong rabbit hole. He is alive and well. He's not even 70 years old today. The WWII Veteran you cited is someone else.

Besides, those letters have been posted on pinside and IPDB before. It was just a job for these people. When I kick off, I don't think my family cares about the business letters I wrote during my career. They have copies of some of my memorable (poison-pen) ones. They might care about my life insurance policies though.

Yeah, I got that letter too. Fortunately it has the mylar installation instructions on the other side.
