Hi! Having some issues with my BSD. It all started with the START button.... sometimes it wouldn´t work at all (not in switch test either). Then it started to work 100% of the time. Then the game would start a new game right away after the current game without anyone touching the start button. And now it adds players during the game (on ball one). And if I just turn the game on now, it starts up a game after 1 to 2 minutes...and then adds players... (just like someones pushing the start button).

What I´ve done so far... First I noticed that the connectors for the cabinet switches to the CPU board (where the start switch is included) where connected to J206 and 208 instead of J207 and 209. Recified that...then the start button stopped reacting again. Then I took out the cpu board and reseated all the I/C circuits and all the connectors. The start button now works again but it still starts games and add players by itself...

Whats the next step..... (I miss pinrepair.com

Did the CPU ever have acid damage from the batteries?

What about the actual start button switch, is it shorting on something?

Yea, I would look inside the cab around the start button for anything that looks suspicious. Maybe a loose wire or bad solder. Something like that could cause inconsistencies like you are describing.

Problem solved.... Went into switch test... wiggled all the connectors again and voila... J212 activated start. Reflowed solder on the pins and now everything works fine again.

Thanks for all the help anyways guys!

Why exorcise a spirit that just wants to play some pinball?

I'd try to communicate with the spirit - if you could get it to be more cooperative, it wouldn't be a problem. Maybe you could play 2-player games without anyone else. Only problem would be, he might cheat if you started winning... Well, that and the extra wear on the machine.
