Here we go. Played this when it was brand new back in 1986 at Golfland. During my junior year in high school
They made four versions. (Correction) Cabaret Cabinet, Upright Cabinet, Standard Moving Cabinet and the Deluxe Moving Cabinet. I think the Deluxe is the coolest of the bunch so thats what i'm working on.

The game is TRASHED! Its missing the rear spoiler and the dash has been destroyed. I collected some donor parts from a parted out Standard version that was in a bit better shape (pcbs, misc metal, dash, steering wheel, etc.) so hopefully i can get one nice machine put together and have spare parts.

This is what one million plays does to an OUTRUN.

Check out the giant yellow start button on the dash. Gotta love operator hacks.

Wooo now that looks trashed... Good luck restoring this one!

Buckle up, this will be a rough ride

Thanks! It's going to be a ton of work but it deserves a second life.

I've always wanted one of those but it won't fit into my house, so I settled for an upright. Ever since I first played it in 86 I always said that I'd have one some day. Finally got one in 07. It's always been my #1 grail machine

    #15 8 years ago

This is gonna be an allllllllllll-sum ride!!! Looks like 1 million rain drops hit it too!!! This is def the one to restore/own....watching here

    #16 8 years ago

Subscribed. Just seeing the starting line jogged some awesome memories. Loved this game!

    #17 8 years ago

    Wow

    Holy crap

    Does it play ???

    Always wanted a Rad Mobile

    Good luck on your resto

    #18 8 years ago

Also favorited. Too bad there wasn't a sub form for arcade machines to post this thread in

    #20 8 years ago

I predict this will be one of the biggest transformations ever documented on this site.

    Looking forward to the show.

    #21 8 years ago

I pumped a ton of quarters into the stand-up version back when it was new. If I had the room I'd really like to have one. Good luck with the restoration!

    #22 8 years ago

I've always had a soft spot for OutRun, so you're my personal hero for resurrecting this corpse from the dead!
Good luck with this project. Seems you won't be running out of work anytime soon.

*humming Magical Sound Shower on the way out*

    #23 8 years ago

This game is certainly a project, but will be great in the end! Subscribed

    #24 8 years ago

Awesome! Love this game, I have an Out Run cabaret, so the flyer is incorrect - they made four versions.

So since there isn't one, the plan is just to dump any old restoration into this sub forum until Robin says to knock it off?

    Could yours be a conversion?

    Let's just say it's incomplete.
You're right, there's also the mini upright cabinet (where I had spent most of my weekly allowance )

LOL yeah incomplete is better. That's what mine looks like.

Technically this sub form doesn't say It HAS to be pins being restored. It just says games. So really I guess the plan is to dump any restoration here till it's more specific.

But in all seriousness, I'm excited to see this restored even if it's not a pin. So I'm glad Pacman is posting his work. It's definitely the coolest of the 3 Out Runs.

    #30 8 years ago

Looking forward to this. I have the same cabinet.

It sure does! This version of Outrun was in lots of arcades in southern Europe when I grew up. While spending my holiday money on pinball, this was the only vid I would occasionally put my money. in. Great game.

What's with the 'Turbo' on the side? Is that a sticker somebody put on? This is the original Outrun, right?

I too have a cabaret / mini upright version.

    #33 8 years ago

Pacman, have you ever done an Afterburner 2 motorized cabinet? My all time favorite video game!

    Rob

    #34 8 years ago

As I recall, Turbo Outrun was a software upgrade. I had a number of Outrun Roms in Sega issued antistatic boxes from back in the day.

It is supposedly in the same deluxe cabinet I need to out back together.

    #35 8 years ago

owned my stand up full size for 2 years now. thought about selling it a few times but could never bring myself to do it. my father who is not a game player will spend 30 min on outrun every time he comes over. if i had the sitdown cab he might ask to relocate it to his basement!

    #36 8 years ago

It does not work. Yet. Need to rebuild the motors and assemblies.

It was upgraded to a Turbo conversion kit - basically 3 stickers and some chips. It will be reconverted back to an original Outrun.

Nice! I may ask you for a couple dimensions down the road if you don't mind.

First pain in the... Gotta get this shifter out to replace it and remake the metal plates. The pin is STUCK like a mofo. Broke two pin punch tools and several drill bits had zero effect. Going to need to cut the shaft off and make a new piece here.

Steering wheels from this game and donor game. The one off the thrashed game is very slick (627,268 plays) and the other still has texture.
