Hi there,
People I have talked to during my restoration of my Sega Goldeneye have been asking about the end result. So I thought I would share images from the start to the end. I hope you will enjoy it

I would like to thank Pinside and all the awesome people here. With out your help this would never have been possible for me. When I asked for help and answers I got them Also a special thanks to Vid for hes awesome thread and help:
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/vids-guide-to-ultimate-playfield-restoration

Intro story:
I am from Denmark and it all started when a German seller contacted me and asked if I was interested in Goldeneye. I have never played it (but know the movie) so I started to investigate and watch videos of game play. I liked what I saw and many people wrote that it was a fun machine. So I thought I would take the chance and buy it! But the shipping from Germany to Denmark is not cheap. So to make it affordable I had to buy another machine, that ended up being Spring Break. I also restored that one and you can see a image of it here before and after:
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/the-spraymax-2k-auto-clear-in-a-can-club#post-2050581

When I first bought the machine I was told it worked, and when looking at the images I thought I could just clean it and it was ready to play. I guess I could have cleaned it and played it. But the shape of the machine was not great.

Images I emailed when buying it:

Machines arriving on pallet. The cabinet was damaged during shipping and there where no insurance on the shipping he said...:

The game was very dirty and I saw that there where wear down to wood three places (including James loosing hes balls). Also gold ramps where bad and in general needed love. So before even powering it up I decided that I would take it apart and make it look good again.
Here are some pictures of the process of taking it apart:

When I was trying to clean the gold rails (they where more black then golden) I saw that the gold was removed with the dirt:

New gold looks good:

When all parts where removed I started to touch up the playfield where it was needed.
I also decided to fix James with a decal that I made. With help from Pdxmonkey who had a playfield he could scan and send me images.

Before cleaning, sanding and putty:

Have enough decals so you can fail also did some color variations so I was sure it was right:

Test fit:

Remember protection:

After a coat of clear and blok sanding James was back in shape:

Fresh coat of clear added:

After giving it more coats I decided to let it cure for 30 days.
Then I block sanded it with very fine wet sandpaper and polished it so it was flat!

I waxed the playfield before adding new mylar (tip from Vid) I added a piece on James to protect him as the magned under him makes the wear that I had fixed. I then started to put the playfield back together. I also decided to use Leds.

I also flame polished the ramps they turned out as new:

I also bought a decal set and changed all decals.
Wonder why Sega did not do a better job aligning the decal on the satellite. The old decal was completely missing

All decals where faded here is an example.

The inside sides of the cabinet had typical scratches and wear. I filed, sanded and painted the sides so they look great. Sadly I don't have any images of the process
I also repaired the cabinet for the shipping damage. Also no pictures...

I painted legs, lockdownbar, siderails and some more stuff in matte black. I decided to custom fit Stern siderails with guards to proctect agains button wear.

I also wanted gold bolts for the legs.

I have so many images but don't want to make the thread boring so I just skip to the happy ending.

Color leds for the backbox.

I also had to buy a new satellite from a member here as it was smashed.

End notes:
When powering it up I did not know what was not working. It turned out the only thing was the optics. Everything else worked.

The game really came out great and it looks and plays so well. I have never played Goldeneye before and luckily I love it! Currently I own T2 and Transformers and Goldeneye is the must beautiful machine by far. The Led's suits it so well also the lightshow when playing is awesome and the stereo_ sound is great.

If there are any request on images I would love to share them also questions are more than welcome. Hope you enjoyed my thread

Quoted from galaxian:

Did you buy new plastic ramps?

No I cleaned and flame polished them. They look like new now.

Quoted from galaxian:

How did you clean the gold ramps?

They got new gold plating. It was not possible to clean them because that took of the old gold. So new gold was needed.

Thank you all for the kind words

Quoted from galaxian:

Thanks for the reply. Just wondering what did it cost to gold plate the hobitrails?

I gave $100 including shipping both ways for two ramps.

Quoted from PoMC:

Do you see the reflection of the flipper LED strips in the DMD? I tried that with one of my pins and at my height I could see the LEDs reflected in the DMD and it was too distracting and made it hard to see some animations.

I don't have LED trips (if the comment is to me) those images are Pdxmonkey's. I don't feel it needs more light at all. The LED GI is enough for my taste.

Quoted from PoMC:

I think the backglass would look better without all the different colors everywhere. The two people under the 7 are purple and the blue in the top left just muffles the artwork.

I love the different colors in the backglass. But I have changed some of the colors that where of. Like the people who are read etc. So my current backglass look a little different. Also bare in mind that the camera made the colors pop more than they actually do. It really looks great in person

Quoted from Frogroar:

This decal looks fantastic. How is it holding up after all these years? Was this printed with a color laser printer?
So if I understand correctly: cleaning, sanding, putty, sanding, cleaning, light clear coat, decal, rest of clear coats?

Hi,
Sorry for the late reply.

Yes you are right and they hold op perfectly. No fade or any damage etc.
