I’m wondering what people think is the second best bash toy? I’d probably go with Rudy from Fun House.

is the first just Sparky?
Quoted from jonesjb:cosmokramer is wrong. The MM castle is the 1st best bash toy, not the 2nd.
I have three words for you...
Sparky
While both of those are cool bash toys, neither feel as satisfying IMO as Sparky with the integrated Magnet/sounds/callouts, etc. (feels more "alive" I suppose) Sparky may be my vote for #2 as well (partially due to the awesome multi-ball start-up sequence). TOM Trunk I also find to be a more fun bash toy, but perhaps not as consistently rewarding feeling. I think all three bash toys on TWD Prem/LE are fairly rewarding (at least with the Bicycle Girl light mod..otherwise just the 2).
While not consistently fun enough to name anywhere near #2, I give some honorable mention to Captain Spaulding during What mode, as I enjoy the insults and the slight playfield change when he swings open to complete the mode and collect jackpots on the upper playfield.
really? people are voting for a bobblehead on a spring over a mechanical head with blinking eyelids, eyes that move side to side to follow the ball around the table, a mouth that swallows the ball and spits it back out, opens and closes in time with the speech, a lower lip that quivers when he snores, and a voice that goes from friendly to taunting to menacing as you progress through the game? I guess that explains why Stern is content to dumb down their playfields -- their customers can't distinguish between Rudy and Sparky.
Interesting that Sparky is a bash toy.
To me, Sparky is an opto and a standup that create an effect. In my view, the catapult on MM is way better (and way more rewarding) if that is how we define a bash toy since it has the physical launch of the ball vs the magnet du jour.
The tie fighter on the new SW is identical then. Standup target with a solenoid that makes it shake.
Now Sparky has the animations when you start the multi-ball but it can't touch Thing which is an amazing toy you never hit either but it interacts with the ball.
I think the ball should hit the toy in a satisfying way like Rudy or Frank, or The bookcase, or the Castle, or the Speed bag, or Power Field or....
By the way, what was number 1? This is all my opinion BTW.

this!
How about the Bobble Head Tie Fighter? Does that count?
Or is that just "2nd best use of a spring" in a pinball machine?
(every other use of a spring is tied for first)

While I agree with that 100%, I also don't consider Rudy a mere "bash toy," nor do I really consider the MM castle a bash toy I suppose--both just seem more significant (toy itself interacting with the ball rather than just a magnet, etc.) than what I generally see referred to as a "bash toy."
Ringmaster is pretty good, due to the fact that it is so dynamic.
The gophers? They're slick and also quite dynamic.
Rudy is A-OK too.
TOM trunk is worthy also.
The POTC ship is the best thing Stern has ever done, and is in the top few for sure.
I'm not ready to give Sparky any props. It's a bobble head on a spring. The electrocution sequence is very theatrical and choreographed well, but it doesn't make it a great bash toy.

But the OP is asking for the second best...

That is pretty cool, but shooting it never felt super satisfying to me...

You just summed up how I feel about Dialed In (and Funhouse) and why it only lasted a few weeks in my collection as opposed to Metallica which has been there for a few years. Technically there is no argument - Dialed In is almost perfect. But there is absolutely no emotional hook to either of those games. There is more emotion in electrocuting Sparky whilst listening to Metallica, than in the whole of DI and FH combined.
Emotion plays a huge part in what makes a bash toy great. And plays a huge part in great games.
Just my opinion of course.

I absolutely love met, but you're saying Rudy and his interaction with the ball and player doesn't provide that emotional attachment??
Quoted from yzfguy:I absolutely love met, but you're saying Rudy and his interaction with the ball and player doesn't provide that emotional attachment??
Yep. Just like bashing an electric utility technician doesn’t. Or loading balls into a subway station.
Edit: having said that, Funhouse has more emotion than DI because Rudy ended up being a creepy clown. You could almost re-theme FH to It.
