My Firepower playfield is very worn to the wood in the usual places. The exposed wood createsa lot of wood dust on the playfield. Does anyone have a suggestion on what I might use to seal those areas? I have thought about buying a playfield clear overlay but am afraid it will just cause excessive dust to build up underneath the overlay.

Those overlays also have problems on games with rollover stars/buttons

Any thoughts on what I might use to seal the exposed wood areas to cut down on wood dust?

For very worn machines that I just want to stop wasting away, I use varathane in a rattle can. It's sometimes frowned upon, but it works for me. I prefer it over crappy touch up work

Options:

1. Automotive Clearcoat
2. Varathane in a rattlecan -- entire playfield or spot seal.
3. Mylar patch

If you just want to seal the area, i'd do a light sanding to the exposed wood so it is smooth and then use varathane to spot treat the area. Even better would be to take everything off the playfield and spray the entire playfield so the finish is even.
