Hey guys i picked this Addams Family about two weeks ago and have been running down the long list of problems. Last thing on the list is that bumpers/kickers fuse kept blowing when machine was cut on so i narrowed it down to one of the bumpers. Well i checked its coil out and it is fine. So that took me to the TIP102 transistor on the driver board. Well i tried to replace it and when i removed the old one it pulled two leads up with it ... One is kinda of bad took out a small sections of it, the other lays back down into place so i dont believe its to big a deal. So i tried putting the new one in and its not doing its thing. Plus side i guess is that its not blowing the fuse anymore and all the kickers and other bumpers work. Anyone willing to help me out in getting this fixed?

Check with Chris Hibler, John Wart Jr, Borygard. They all post here.

Bodyguard has done me right. it worked and he picked up the shipping because it took longer than expected.

Thanks for the info guys. Ill give one of them a try. Any local to the Atlanta area?

#5 8 years ago

I am amazed at how fast these guys are at this type of work (not including shipping of course as that's out of their hands).

Borygard was at Pin-a-Go-Go and would put nvram in your boards for a very reasonable price. This included removing the old ram, putting in a socket and the new nvram. I would take one of my machines offline on the floor, take him the board and I swear he'd have it done before I could put the previous board back in.

You can't go wrong with the guys LTG mentioned. I think I have sent a board to each of them.

I found a guy local to me that sounded really nice over the phone, and will come to the house to fix it. Its Atlanta Pinball Repair anybody have any dealing with them?

Wart Jr. did one of my boards...great work at a great price.

Their website says they charge $100 just to show up. You can get WPC drivers repaired by the guys anyone will vouch for under $100 if you ship it out. ~$80 seems to be an average price? Coin Op Cauldron has WPC Driver repair listed for $88 on their site. If someone says Atlanta Pin Repair does good work and they won't charge more than a hundred bucks, it could be fine.

I sent out a resetting WPC driver with a bad trace to Chris Hibler a couple years ago and it turned out much nicer than the board work I try myself now

I can repair it, and WPC boards I can crank through pretty quickly. I'll send a PM

You're going to pay extra for on site repair. It's the nature of the beast. Sometimes it's worth the extra 12 dollars for that level of service. Also, it's going to be around the same price once you pay for shipping both ways and you don't have the post office risk to deal with. I'd choose the on-site repair.

Im going to give this guy a shot that is local. I just got the machine and dont want it to be down much time is the main thing as im still addicted pretty bad right this second. If this local guy cant do it then i will certainly send it Johns way.

Really trab...if you send the board to John, or Borygard, or Clive, or me, the board is guaranteed to be working when you get it back. We all have the parts, tools, and experience necessary to properly and professionally repair your board. You're taking a card from the top of the deck with this fellow. He may be good, but here in St. Louis, there isn't anyone "in the business" that I'd trust with my boards.

Let us know how it turns out. Perhaps you'll find a good one.

Please don't think my post was a knock on any of the repair people on this site. I have nothing but the upmost respect for them. I definitely agree if it's someone coming without any references then I'd be wary. My post was in response to the cost being cheaper to send it out vs having it repaired on site by a reputable tech. I'm just saying for a few bucks more it'd be worth it to me if someone was just going to come out and have it working right away without me having to remove the board etc.

Just wanted to clarify since I think my point wasn't well articulated.

#14 8 years ago

I haven't looked at the website, I can't get it to come up but if it's a $100 to show up what makes you guys talk like the repair is only going to be $100? Sounds like that may be a starting point. I have no clue but don't be surprised if it ends up being more!!!

Cant you just jumper it?

Me too. He fixed my Earthshaker board and it works great.

#17 8 years ago

Hey guys the guy got it knocked out today and did it quick. Ended up being 125 total. The guy replaced the the transistor and it blew as soon as we powered it up. So he ran 3 jumpers and that took care of it. He also replaced a few capacitors and bridge rectifier. Id recommend him.

I'm glad it worked out for you. Enjoy your game.
