Prefer them nice and peaty, although the are some exceptions..... the Balvenie Caribbean cask is tasty.

So this stuff I once got in a duty free shop many moons ago and then ran across it again recently. The distillery is mostly used in blends (Johnny Walker I think?), but it's really nice and drinkable. Smooth and literally tastes like they added honey to it.... this here is a private bottling from when they were still owned by Seagrams.

These are also a private bottling, loved the bottler name if your familiar with the old Black Adder tv series. What's interesting is the char from the barrel in the bottles. Unfiltered, so it is still 'aging' in the bottle. Going to let this sit for a while

Also unusual because you don't see Laproaig independently bottled that often.

And this guy is reserved for my wedding next week, will be knocking it back with my boys and close friends. Date is obviously special for me. 71 was a good year

Quoted from Goronic:

and frankly in my book a good bourbon beats a good scotch. (I am sure I will get a lot of flack for that comment)

two different animals entirely.... just as long as you don't claim Beam is your favorite

I also like a good rye whiskey with some bite...

If I'm whipping up an old fashioned, then it's straight ol' Crown for me.. anything else gets lost in the bitters or stands on it's own without anything at all...

It's a mixer that offends no one. I don't drink it straight for sure... lol

And if you're making an old fashioned or anything else with whiskey, these sure do liven up the glass!

Couple of new bottles have joined the club at my bar....

The Ardbeg "Corryvreckan" is my first foray with this distillery. An Islay at 57.1% is like drinking heavily peated hellfire. Couple drops open it up, but man, it gives the others a run for their money. Could probably use a few more years in the cask to mellow.....

Picked up the Quinta Ruban and Nectar D'Or based on the recommendations from this thread to keep the 18yo company - excellent choices! Not as smooth as the 18, but then again 1/2 the price...

The Ruban is aged in port 'pipes' and the D'Oro in Sauternes barrels (super sweet French white wine).... definitely adds something!
