I picked up 2 bottles this past weekend to have during the holidays. A bottle of Dalmore 12 and a bottle of Dalmore 15. I also grabbed a bottle of Blanton's while I was there.

I need to try this. Last night I drank more JW Green Label than a responsible adult should.

How where they?!? Big difference between the 12&15?

I did the whiskey trail some 25 years ago she n Scotland. Rented a car in Glasgow, then first did island hopping. And then went to the Glen Valley. My favorite place of all was the island of Islay And my favorite single malt there still is Laphroig which then it was a small distillery. I remember looking at the visitors log they had, the one before me signing was a fellow from Japan and the one before was prince Charles. And they were separated by months. apparently that's Charles favorite too.
There is a lot of folklore around peat. On how it used to be their only combustible. And how it's the peat that gives Scottish whiskey its color too. Laphroig is very very peaty. But it's an aquired taste.

I’ve only had the 12 so far. I’ll report back hopefully this weekend with an update on 15.

I had a long layover at Heathrow yesterday and decided to check out world of whisky at the airport. Quite a nice selection, but most were not real bargains compared to prices here. They had some rare and old ones too, and those seemed to be pretty good deals and in most cases hard to find here.
So I bought this nice 25 year old speyside gem, tried it out last night after landing and boy it was tasty and smooth. Now I'm afraid my next UK stop is too far into the future, this will not last for long..

Got to love Pinside.
I have been in the pinball hobby for 15 years collecting, restoring, buying, selling and trading games but I just recently discovered Pinside.

In the beginning I came here just to read up on new games and hearing other people thoughts on different subjects concerning pinball but I have since then discovered so many other sides to Pinside. It has now almost become my one stop forum.
I can come here to discuss pretty much every one of my hobbies or interests, which I think is grate.
Besides pinball – obviously, I have also written some about my cars and cats.
Only yesterday did I discover this thread about whisky and the thread about guns which also happens to fall into my category of hobbies/interests.

I will start off in here with a picture of my two whisky cabinets. I love single malt whisky and have been fortunate enough to visit several whisky distilleries in Scotland.
Pictured in these cabinets are the everyday drinking whiskies. I also have some collector whiskies locked up in my gun safe.
The gun thread will also see some pictures shortly.

Here is one from the Fine and Rare Collection. One of 135 bottles made. Probably not that many left now.
It is distilled in 1966 and bottled in 2002.
I bought it back in 2003.

I'm an unapologetic Scotch fan. I talk about it often on our podcast and drink it even more "oftener."

I am shocked that this thread isn't more active. For those of you fellow deacons of the dram, what are you enjoying lately?

I like both peated and unpeated but Cambeltown-esque malts, including ones outside of that area but may have characteristics of that region, are some of my favs. Old Pultney is probably my single biggest favorite bang for the buck everyday dram, although the older vintages tend to get a little too syrupy for me. One of the few that I greatly prefer in the original 12. Deanston is sneaky good too IMO.

Anyone else? Word of mouth is always great for discovering good scotch.

I'm enjoying Belvanie Carribean Cask 14 year this evening. Never had Old Pultney, so many scotches to try and i'm no expert, will put that on my to do list. Love Ardbeg, have a bottle of Airigh Nam Beist I have to crack into one of these days..,

If you like that region you should definitely try Springbank or Longrow.

Oh I most certainly have. Springbank is a favorite, especially the 15. You are correct. No one does seaside brine nuance with a touch of peat like SB.
Longrow is meh for me at least.

I've never tried the Caribbean Cask. How is it? Is that rum influenced?

When I think of Speyside and Sherry, I think of Balvenie. Tough to go wrong with any of their offerings.

Yep, it is finished in rum barrels. Very nice, if you like Balvenie you will like this one.

Balvenie Double Wood is very nice, but nothing says Speyside more to me than The Macallan.

But what do you do when you like both Speyside and Islay type whisky?
Well you buy a bottle of Tomintoul.

Im putting this on my shopping list

Macallan is the one and only distiller that I avoid. I know that is not a popular thing, but they are plenty big enough without my hard earned money.

Nothing personal to those that like them. I simply find that the character of the spirit does not justify their disproportionate price tags.

Tried some of this bacalta don’t care for it as much as the nector or the Quinta but I like it better then the lasanta.
