anybody got a backglass for this game?

I have a really crappy one :/. I bought it from some guy in town for $30 and it is worth about $30 . I priced the shipping at one time and it looked like it would be around $60-80. If you're interested PM me and I'll hook you up.

#105 5 years ago

Could anyone give me a hint as to why my left eject hole doesn't recognize a ball? I've f'ed with the leaf switch enough to be confident that it should be working just fine. The switch seems to test completely fine with a multimeter continuity test. I need to do a solenoid test and see if that is the problem, but in lieu of being able to test it right now I thought I might just ask if someone has a tip that would help me.

Thanks!!

#106 5 years ago

Does the eject switch not register with a ball in the hole or does the solenoid just not pop the ball out when it should? Do both a solenoid AND switch test and go from there.

I decided to send my Scorpion backglasses to BGResto to get it perfectly restored. From what I understand, their process is amazing and should end up extremely close to the original. For fun, I have two mirrored backglasses that will be restored. One is a train wreck and has a bit of the mirrored area that will need to be replaced with a little grey, the other is in pretty nice condition and I expect will look perfect once fully restored.

The reason I am posting is two fold. 1) Once BGResto has this artwork, he should be able to reproduce it without the mirroring for a lot less money than I will be spending. 2) I will be selling the second backglass which will have 95% of the original mirroring.

I have no idea on the timeline or final cost as they just left Arizona last week, but I figured I would at very least let the fans know there should be some options in the Scorpion backglass arena soon . .

That's some really great news! Although I am currently letting my Scorpion go after a couple good years with her, I really love this machine. Severely underrated....in part due to the fact that almost no one has one with a decent backglass and lots of these machines were simply scrapped once the backglass was beat or broken since they are near impossible to source. I see people looking for the glass all the time to no avail. Maybe I'll pick up another one someday and get a nice new glass from BGResto to go with it.

Just joined the club, thanks to cmack750 As soon as it was delivered (Thanks Fast Eddie!!) and set up, I could see that he obviously took really good care of this machine, and I'm looking forward to having it in my collection for some time.IMG_20191025_211624 (resized).jpgIMG_20191025_211624 (resized).jpg

Joined the club recently. I spent some time this weekend with easy off oven cleaner and stripped most of the crappy black spray paint. No idea why it would have been painted black the original paint still looks really good. I still have a bit to get off around the back glass yet but my fingers are sore.
Here is a before and after.

I had never played this game before buying it, and the one I bought had switch matrix and coil issues, so I was not able to play it. I've had it for a while and finally started troubleshooting and fixing issues and played it for the first time this morning.

Switch matrix symptoms where that when a switch in a couple of the columns was triggered, all switches in the row would trigger. I installed sockets for the switch matrix PIA and 4 ICs to be able to swap in replacements. In the end, it was one of the column ICs (7406) that was the culprit.

Once switches were working again, I started focusing on the couple of crispy coils. One from the right pop bumper and the left coil on the 5-bank drop targets. Replacing the pop bumper coil (and fixing up the mech with some replacement parts) got that working again. No clue what would have caused the original failure - maybe a stuck switch. The coil on the drop target was locked on, and that was probably the reason for its original meltdown. That ended up being fixed with a transistor replacement.

Anyway, the game is playable now, so that's good news. I'll need to adjust some of the drop targets that aren't falling reliably, but otherwise I think I'll be in good shape after replacing rubbers.

heck yeah! I was lucky to have ones that were mirrored to start with. The one I have above is technically for sale even though I haven't created a price yet. That one is 95% mirrored with one small part which is grey because the mirror was destroyed.

I myself just picked up a Scorpion ! I love this thing, so far working on getting it in running order first. is it just me or has anyone else had problems with a rubber kit regarding the 6 bank drop assembly? Also does anyone have ANY ideas on plastics or even a playfield hardtop? Backglass is in pretty great shape, cabinet needs touched up or sanded and stenciled, another problem. I saw someone removed the playfield tilt...for some reason?

Here are a couple of pictures from my restoration. I had a guy in town fix paint and clear coat the playfield. The only thing left to work on is the cabinet.

Hello all. New guy. Got a scorpion I'm trying to work all kinks out on. Love seeing all the awesome different color lamps posted above.
Mine still has few issues. And I'm a noob too so. Got a weak/nonworking upper left flipper...drop targets that dont score but spinner does.. player 3 4 score doesn't light up..and sound only beeps with no cool arcade sound. But it's not bad shape.

Looks to be in great shape!

Weak flipper can be anything from dirty coil sleeves to improper gap on the end of stroke switches. I would recommend you look into some of the flipper rebuild guides on Pinside as they taught me enough to be dangerous.

The drops in this game I have had a lot of fun with…First, the wiring is constantly breaking and I need to solder it back down to the contact. Second, the drops themselves have these little contact plate boards that get dirty as hell. You may need to disassemble the whole mech and clean them with some alcohol or an eraser. Marco sells new ones if yours are really bad.

I’m not sure on the player 3 and 4 thing. You are saying the game doesn’t register the players or that the lights aren’t lighting?

#136 3 years ago

Ah yes. 3 and 4 scores dont come on. But it does allow me to play as player 3 and 4.

Sound just beeps too. Bad board maybe?

I tried cleaning the field. Still dirty.

Off work after today for 7, so starting tomorrow I'll set Scorpion up beside Algar and start a 2 for 1 fix up. The light door is broken on Scorpion, a piece of it is still attached to the top hinge, and the door falls forward. Haven't seen this before, might be interesting to try and reattach. I sure don't want to attempt to make a new one unless I have too.

I've been slowly working on updating and improving my scorpion a little at a time. Rebuilt flippers, new rotten dog combo board. I rebuilt the power supply board and getting ready to re-pin the connectors as soon as the parts come in the mail. One of the first things I did though was to switch the incandescent bulbs out and replace with LEDs. Even with the LEDs I always felt that the top left and top right sides of the playfield were too dark. So I added some light strips under the plastics in those darker areas. I also replaced both ball lock plates and lit them from underneath. I used comet matrix system for everything, works slick. I also added some new chrome legs/Chrome bolts to really dress it up. I've been thinking of sending my backglass in to bgresto. The mirroring looks great yet so I think it'd turn out pretty sweet. I'm also working on designing some new cabinet art, the art on the cabinet is garbage, even compared to many other pins of the era the art on scorpion is awful. Looks like a kindergartener did it. I have a few different ideas for cabinet art, I redesigned the scorpion for the front, and am looking at putting the backglass battle scene on the sides or at least the battleship with "scorpion" over the top of it. it's going to be sweet. I'll try to get some stencils made and paint it this spring.

I have a Williams Scorpion that I picked up a few weeks ago. The 6 rear targets(two sets of 3 targets) have wires disconnected, so i'm looking for any photos of the wiring that go to those little boards on the back. Any photos would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

#142 2 years ago

I just switched mine out with the NMP boards. I just checked my phone and only have the after photo of the 3 banks. I do have before and after on the 5 Bank. Sorry. I would recommend switching to the new boards. They work great, no more adjusting. If you go to the web site and click on the game title will give you the page from the manual with switch wires, but won't help with the jumper wires. https://troxelrepair.com/nmp-install/

I sold my Scorpion a while back so this is the only picture I have. I took this picture so Hans could update his diagrams on his website. You may be able to use his diagram as an aid.

Does anyone have a rubber ring guide for Scorpion?
I bought a kit that didn't come with the guide and that page seems to be missing from the manual on IPDB.
