I have an intermittent problem with the 100K score reel sometimes scoring when other level of points are scored. (this is fixed and solution is in the thread)

I have noticed that the problem only occurs when the score motor is in a certain position. When the score motor is in that position switch IMP-B arcs and this is when the problem occurs with the 100K score reel.

See video.

Around the 8 second mark is when you can see the arcing. This is also when the 100K score reel plays up.

I have adjusted the switch gap several times and have made no difference to the problem.

Is this where the problem is coming from or is there something else I should be looking for?

Attached is the incomplete schematic and the section I think the problem is occurring.

Thanks for your help,

Steven

PS: As part of this post we investigated the scoring of the drop targets. There is a jones plug which allows you to adjust the value of the drop targets. The targets can be set for 50k or 10k. This allows you to have a lower scoring game, making it harder to clock the score.

These are the two circuits that move the 100k score. Most likely the indicated switch is barely out of adjustment.

Howard,

The switch you marked was the problem. I adjusted it slightly and now I am not experiencing the 100K run over problem.

However now 5000 points are scoring as 50000......

This machine is like one step forward, one step back.

Thanks For your help,

Steven

Which of these relays activate when that happens?
- 10000 Point (DM) relay
- 1000 Point (G) relay
- 50000 Point (W) relay
- 5000 Point (X) relay

Assuming the W relay activates when the X relay should, there's a switch on the Selector (O) relay that could be involved.

Note that on your posted schematic it's very hard to distinguish between the O and Q relays.

Hi Steven
HowardR and me (and others (?)) are waiting for You writing an answer to Howards post-4.
Some time ago You wrote +/- "nice, all relays have paper tags telling the names" --- are steppers also tagged ? You may "just want to play and take what the pin gives" - or You may want to check the logic / game-play. If so: The full schematics in post-1 --- the upper left corner - the "Lights Section" is important - through the lights the pin talks to the player.

Please take pictures of Your playfield or use from ipdb https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/explain-this-schematic-bally-freedom#post-4191504 WHERE / WHAT was giving 5000 points and now gives 50'000 points ? Always or sometimes or seldom or rare ? Howard has "encircled red" an switch on O-Relay --- in the upper left corner of the schematics I see "O-Relay" changes light between the bumpers --- do You have in Your pin a paper tag telling O-Relay ? Do You have a paper tag telling "Q" ? What happens when You manually activate the O and/or/only O/Q Relay ? Greetings Rolf

Hi,

The switch I am querying are the drop down targets in the centre of the play field. They score 50 000 each, which seems high. Both target score 50,000 always.

From what I can tell from my limited ability to read schematics is that the section showing the drop down targets is missing.

I got a chance to have a look at the O-relay last night and everything looks ok. There was a loose solder joint on one of the lugs and I soldered the wire back on.

It then got me wondering what that drop target should score. I sent a note to DJredDog to ask him to check what the drop target should score. He is still in Las Vegas and will be home in a few days.

With all the problems I have been having over the last couple of weeks and also not having the game at 100% working since I got it, I have no idea if this is a problem or not.

Thanks,

Steven

The red drop down targets are the ones that maybe scoring wrong. They are worth 50k each. Seems high.

They do not reset while the ball is being played. Only reset on start of each ball. I have watched a video of the game being played and that is normal.

Both targets need to drop to score whatever the centre target is worth. When a target drops the only relay I can see pull in is the 50k - W-relay.

I tried to work it out using conquest and new world schematics .... but I am still trying to understand how the schematics work.

Thanks

Steven

Hi Steven
I have problems with the schematics (part is missing) - You write in post-7 "have seen a video" - please post the link to the video - we may have to wait and ask djreddog ...
I believe the second JPG in post-7 shows the coil to reset ONE of the Drop-Targets ? - or is it one coil and mechanically both targets do reset ? Is there a paper-tag - giving the exact name (((I do not see some "Reset-Coil(s) mentioned in the schematics))).

50'000 points is a lot --- in the complete schematics "New World" I see on schematics-D3: An Adj-Plug with text "adjustment score left and right target" - do You find this Adj-Plug ? Can You change the setting ? does the scoring changes ? Greetings Rolf

Hi Rolf,

Here is the video I have been watching to learn about the machine - It is for New World (the 4 player version)

I found the Adj-Plug. It has settings for 50k and 10k. I changed the position of the pin and the drop targets now score 10k.

The drop targets are working correctly, it is possible to change the scoring so that you have lower scoring games.

Once again thanks for your help.

Steven

Hi Steven
thanks for the video. Every time a new ball is given: The two Drop-Targets are resetted - they may not have been dropped but we see in the video the Reset-Coil fires --- as long a ball is in play - as long dropped targets are not resetted.
Great - You have found and fixed "the other problem" - what problems are left ? In the video the guy playing the pin talks a lot about the "two dropped targets must drop - THEN hitting the center target rewards the player with stuff mentioned (below) on the playfield" - does this work in Your pin ?
IF (if, if) everything works: Please write a short summary on "problem(s) - fixed in the topic" - usually "readers in the future will read post-1 and the last post". Greetings Rolf
