Hi gang
I have a gottlieb 70's surf champ
It runs thru start up and everything seems to reset But the score motor keeps running,
If I hold extra pressure on the brake 3 1/2 spring, the motor will stop and I can begin playing but if get a bonus or hole, the related arelay K,I,G, ect will start the motor and it won't shut off unless I hold extra presure on break with my finger,I thought the break spring was too weak so I put in a good used one but same thing, I read alot of repair info and they say the 3 1/2 break is almost not needed? There is no voltage with motor at home unless 1C cam lever is lifted or a related score motor relay on,
I appreciate any help or advice

maybe its not the break, but the clutch?
hows the clutch on the motor? does the armature move in/out ok?

While the motor is cycling do any other assemblies keep firing off?

Zeroes on all reels?

Coin switch stuck?

Hi gang
Score motor is a gottlieb so I don't think it has a clutch
I noticed the reset latch coil on the AX relay keeps unlatching as the motor runs but it's already unlatched and I think this is normal
All scores at zero and I don't think its the coin switch but I will double check it
I will try unplugging the jones plugs that go into the back box and if the motor stops that would mean the problem in back Box? Maybe score reset relay, ect?
My machine is at a pizza parlor on the other end of Oahu so I'm trying to get as much info as I can before I go there and attempt to fix it
Thank so much for info

The first thing to do is to carefully observe which of the possible relays with a switch that activates the score motor is energized while this is happening.

SurfChampMotorSurfChampMotor

There are 10 possible relays, plus the switch at motor 1C.

The switch at motor 1C closes to help keep the motor running to reach the next 1/3 rev, so if that switch doesn't open properly, then the motor will keep running. One possible cause is if the switch dog is caught in a 'lifted' position, keeping that switch stack hung up.

Otherwise, need to determine which of those ten relays is still stuck on. Then can debug the path to that relay to see why it's still on.

Wally69, hello! I am a big pinball fan, and am having trouble finding machines on Oahu. Do you know where any are? (especially yours of course) I 'm originally from the Seattle area and that was pinball heaven. I'm missing it like crazy.

Best wishes.

Hi gang
I fixed it today, it was the switch at 1C,at home the switch was open with about 1/16 gap and I had to increase to 3/16 to get it to stop
Thank you all for helping
