Based on the number of ebay listings of these displays with "burn-in" I'm assuming that's not easily repairable.
Do any of the aftermarket score counters match the original ones reasonably well, or would I look to be replacing all four at once to get a matched appearance?
Those are sometimes called "zits". They form mostly because the normal 170-185VDC provided by the solenoid driver/voltage regulator board trim pot fails and passes the full 230V (or so) through to the display panels. Once they have zits, the only way to repair is to replace the glass.
There are several aftermarket LED display makers. Replacement glass can be found, but it is expensive and LED displays are a better solution.

Both offer "do it yourself" kits that are easy to assemble. I'm partial to the PiniTech "Uno". They take about 45 minutes to assemble tops.
