I've spent the better of the past week completely shopping out and repairing my new Creech score, and wanted something in place of the game's completely black hologram. I figured it would be better to have something than nothing under the playfield, so I found a groovy creature pic on deviantART, printed it off, and taped it to my worthless hologram.

It aint as cool as the real thing, obviously, but ya know, it aint that bad...

Perfect!

He does look nice.

LTG : )

Great solution until the other solutions are released. Heck, if you're a bad player, you won't see much of him anyway!

#5 11 years ago

Put me on the list for one!

#6 11 years ago

Wow thats awsome Joey!!!Glad to see you enjoying the creech

I have been enjoying it; thanks!

I dismantled the playfield, cleaned/waxed/polished everything, replaced the rubbers, replaced the bulbs, replaced the mylar under the drops, cleaned the underside of the inserts, replaced the Snack Bar plastic, added an extended Cliffy protector to the Snack Bar, fixed a subway switch, installed a new DMD, replaced the DMD driver board, fixed the left slingshot, installed new playfield glass, added new apron cards, and of course, added the ghetto hologram.

Its taken A LOT of time this past week, but she looks great and plays like buttah. Once I get a dead row of G.I. lights sorted out, I'll be done.

That Hologram looks almost better than the original... Congrats, looks sweet!

I am shopping out my creech too. Do you have any tricks for the slide wireramp? Mine launches the ball and slams into the bracket in the back and sends the ball all over the place. I have tried to adjust it but i am starting to wonder if it is even the correct part installed back there.

#10 11 years ago

Thanks!

If only he appeared three-dimensional...

I really hope that repro comes along soon: http://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/creature-holo-reproduction

Did it do that before you started the shop job?

#12 11 years ago

yup! Does yours have an angled piece in the back held via two screws? I am curious if it is mounted too low or high in the back.

#13 11 years ago

Here's what I have going on:

#14 11 years ago

Holy hell I am completely missing that piece I bet thats whats causing it! what about at the end of that ramp? Is there a little slide bracket?

#15 11 years ago

No, that's it. The end of the ramp just hangs in the air, dropping the ball off into the upper left lane.

#16 11 years ago

Okay cool. Mine was resting on that plastic piece only so it made the ball slam into that angled piece right above your orbit. Basically the wireramp is too high

#17 11 years ago

Great job on that pin!

Thank ye!

I was fairly apprehensive about shopping it out, 'cause it seemed like it would be a nightmare. Turned out that it wasn't too difficult to reassemble at all...just tedious and time-consuming.

Great creature mod!
looks wayyy better than the virtual hologram that is on youtubes imo.

UPDATE: Ghetto Creech Hologram Version 2.0

My original ghetto hologram was a bit too light for my liking, and I disliked the lack of 3D.

So...for the former, I darkened the blacks up in the image, made the Creature a bit more green, and printed at a higher resolution.

For the latter, I made a print of the "hologram" minus the Creature's right arm, printed the missing arm separately, and then cut out and affixed the right arm in a pseudo-3D, pop-up book manner.

Now the Creature isn't as noticeable when the spotlight's not on him, the extra green makes him "pop" more into your field of vision when the spotlight IS on, and keeping with the theme of the game, he's now in 3D. (Well, at least part of him...sort of. )

Total cost of mod: 13¢

el-oh-el!

fatsquash:
nice hologram mod (especially for the cost)

btw, my machine has a small rubber ring on the end of the clear post (I'm not sure if it's supposed to be there, but it was there when I purchased the machine from the last owner)

#24 11 years ago

If the mod is supposed to be ghetto, then add a few 40oz in there.

I'll have to add one to mine. Pretty sure its meant to be there. Thx!

I'll have to print off a little 40oz and glue it to his hand. Ha!

Seriously: nice work on v2.0. For as short as he's seen, it gets the job done.

This is how you beat the system. Great work.

Hehe. I didn't even think of it like that, but yeah...I guess I did.

Thanks!

#30 11 years ago

I like it. Very nice work.

#31 11 years ago

That looks pretty good. Nice replacement.

#32 11 years ago

Dude, that is the most clever home made repair I've ever seen. Very nice!

#33 11 years ago

I think it looks great. Glad the holo will be 'working' when you get bored with it and it comes to my house.

I don't know, this one may be a keeper...at least for a pretty long while.

Good, I am broke anyway.

UPDATE: Ghetto Creech Hologram Version 2.0 Files

For those who are bothered by such things, I apologize for necro'ing, but I occasionally get PinsideMail directly from this thread, with users asking me for the Creature files that I had used in this project.

I thought I had lost the files and wasn't able to help anyone out, but I located them today, and wanted to share them in this thread.
