Looking for some suggestions on how to fix this problem.
A strong shot from the left flipper into the mystery machine makes the ball bounce back, missing the scoop. However, a soft shot from the right flipper lets the ball go in the scoop. Should I add something to the back of this plate to prevent the ball from bouncing?

Quoted from Zablon:

You could try adding some mole skin and see if that keeps it from bouncing so much. Or for a more pro look the pads they put at the end of long ramps.

That's what I had in mind, maybe a piece of moleskin padding to soften the blow, but I'm not sure if that would hold. I was considering one of the rubber pads but I think it would be too thick.

Quoted from jeffro01:

Not sure of the clearances here so maybe this won't work but have you considered bending that flap down a bit so it gives the ball a more downward ricochet off of it?

Another possibility, I just worry that bending it will interfere with the ball launching up into the locking mechanism.

Oh, and the playfield is at the recommended 7 degree angle so that shouldn't be causing the issue.

Quoted from metallik:

This is the fix BTW...

Unfortunately that won't work, as it would block the ball from launching into the locking mechanism above the VUK.

An update on the issue with the mystery machine VUK problem.

I found a dense foam pad laying around and cut it (close) to size and attached it to the back of the plate. Once everything was back together I played a few games and was still having the issue, just a little less often. I had a Pinsider reach out to me and suggest turning down the left flipper power to 88%. Once that adjustment was made I have played a ton of games without the issue happening again. Not sure if just adjusting the flipper power would've fixed it but I'm just going to leave the pad back there either way.

Quoted from Mrsiyufy:

Does it have an easy to remove playfield - a plug or two and cat 5 or 2?

Pretty simple. A bracket on the left, the ramp in the back, followed by two wood screws on the right. Need to take a few plastics off to reach the screws. Once its up there's 2 plugs that unplug under the main playfield (do this first, also need to cut a zip tie) and 2 Cat5 cables on the bottom of the upper playfield. The trickiest part is moving the playfield around the ramp in the back, so watch out for that.

Quoted from CoolCatPinball:

You wouldn't have a picture of the back of that bracket would you?

Sadly I do not, were you looking for something particular?

Quoted from dnaman:

What is the pitch of your game? It is suggested to be at 7 degrees, this might explain the increased power setting for the flippers.

The pitch is exactly 7 degrees

How do you start SSMB? I cannot get a ball to lock on the right side of the apron, as it's always kicked out. The left side seems to lock the ball as intended.

Quoted from Frito539:

At least to do it the first time on default settings, I think you have to collect 4 Scooby snacks then lock a ball then collect 5 Scooby snacks and lock the second ball. It seems like you have to lock the first one before collecting the next set. You can’t just collect 9.

Ive done exactly that. I've collected 4 scooby snacks and locked the left. Collected 5 more and tried locking the right. The callout is made and the apron lock light is lit. No matter what the ball wont lock. This also applies if I try to lock the first ball on the right side.

The locks are qualified and ready but nothing locks on the right side, only the left.

Quoted from Jigz:

Have you went into opto test mode and checked both opto's on the right apron to make sure they are functioning?

Ill go ahead and do that, I guess I assumed they worked as the ball seems to trigger the servos when it hits the apron.

#3736 1 year ago
Quoted from SpookyLuke:

Possible maybe your wing is set a little to far forward causing a ball to not register on that 1st opto when it's sitting there maybe?

Servos were adjusted out of the box so that they didnt get caught up on the wings when coming down. Ill do some tests and come back with the results.

SpookyLuke

Found the issue, Right Lock and Right Jam were swapped. Looked under the playfield and the wires were labeled incorrectly and plugged into the wrong spot. Swapped the connectors and the lock now works properly.
