OK, totally stupid question - what is the Trap Door? Is it the drop target between the lower flippers?
RM

Yep!

OK thanks, makes sense now.

Was confusing that term for the Secret Passage

Nothing but problems with my Scooby Doo. It has sat for over 3 weeks. Both VUKs could not shoot out a ball. Was told by Luke a new Warden board would be sent over night, 5 days later get an email from AJ asking if anyone did more trouble shooting? Figured I would have had the board already, but he told me to cut both coils and would over night the parts. About 5 days later the parts finally arrived. It took me about an hour to set up and change the coils, then another 20 minutes to swap the board. The board sent to me was not identical to the original from my game. Now the Phantom claws won't shoot the balls out, they just sit there. I updated the code, still doesn't work. Topper and buttons do not light.
I have a lot of repair time into this game I can't play. I am discouraged and disappointed. 5 days here and there waiting on parts and communication really adds up.

#4405 5 months ago

That seems to be par for the course unfortunately.More depressing by the day with all these problems. It's a real rollercoaster ride with this company. I would have thought they would have the quality control issues fixed buy now.

#4406 5 months ago

Largely disagree. Par for the course is easily documented throughout this thread of basically every employee who worked on this pins hardware or software helping and answering peoples questions…usually after work hours or on weekends.

They defiantly have the best of intentions and it’s hard not to root for them. Owning a game that has this much potential tweaking and troubleshooting sure isn’t for everyone.

#4408 5 months ago

It's above and beyond intentions for sure, it's actual help. Unfortunately in today's 'amazon prime' mentality of instant buy/get/replace/blast with bad review way of thinking there's no room for art. Yup...these machines are works of art and good art is damn expensive and is not without flaws. These have the extra bonus of moving parts so it's extra complicated...even if everything works correctly before shipping (as mentioned earlier) something is going to get loose or disconnect in freight and someone who has zero mechanical or electrical know-how is gonna freak out and sully what might be an otherwise positive purchase by a person who understands how to do simple tweaks on pins.

This machine is amazing. I can't wait to play it again and eventually own one...zero concerns for me based on spooky's show of support.

The more I think about it the more clear the Spooky “quality issues” vs other manufacturers seems somewhat skewed.
No other major manufacturer replies on Pinside so it would be pointless to ask for help from the manufacturer on the forum. Spooky does so the forums get filled up with requests for service.
This tends to dominate the conversations somewhat. This same occurrence doesn’t happen as often in the other manufacturers threads.
Replying here has good and bad effects.

Sorry but multiple board failures/replacements in addition to several other parts (coils, mosfets etc) is not simple tweaks regardless of skill level.

Yes pins need constant work and maintenance of some sort I get that. There are things I can do and things I cannot do but to expect the end consumer to be satisfied spending 10k on something that has been broken since they got it, sent multiple parts for replacement it works for a couple of games and then broken again. I don't think that is right - and this goes for ALL pin companies not just Spooky.

From all I have ready they(Spooky) have been far better about dealing with these things than other MFRs by a large margin which is good but the fact that these people still have games that do not work after all this time is unacceptable. Particularly when at least one person has replaced boards at least 3 times as I recall.

As I have said several times I am not happy about any of these issues that I have been reading. Does that mean I am cancelling my order - NO.

I am fully expecting to get a game that we play for a few mins and then I get to spend weeks fixing and replacing many things on it. I'll be fussing and complaining the whole way and pissed about how much I spent on a game that doesn't work and feel like I am getting hosed. Then at some point things will get ironed out and we will have working game and enjoy the heck out of it. Fact remains I am not expecting a smooth warm fuzzy experience once we have our game - I hope I am wrong.

All that being said I am still massively eager to get our game. We loved it when we played it and can't wait to own it.

On a side note yes I know there a many happy owners out there now that are not posting - I have several PMs from folks who are just that.

I think you and I are largely in agreement overall. But we honestly just don't know all the facts. For all you know there was what would have presented as an obvious short to you or me, but not to them when installing all 3 boards causing the fault.

I've had a Stern that went through 2 MPUs. And you can look at the Node 10 board failures in the Rush thread and find lots of issues. The Batman turntable board had issues.

Early CCs had torn/bubbling decals on the legs (not remotely trivial). Alien has had tongue/ball lock issues. Early GNR playfields were trash (again not remotely trivial).

Stuff happens - it's pinball. The important part is how responsive the manufacturer is to the issues.

Abso…fluggin…lutely!!!!

And even knowing that they are putting themselves in a no win situation in many instances here, THEY STILL RESPOND. That’s customer service!
I do feel for people struggling with games, but some folks (Svenop, I’m speaking about you here) just handle it so much better than others and so graciously. I’m certain Spooky will do well by you and your 5 year old. You’re pretty damned impressive!

1000% agree, tons of moving parts. if it moves it will break. if had less problems on my halloween than my sterns, and lets not talk about alien. i do agree for 10k we want something out of the box thats 100% working but that will never be the case with any pinball manfacture.

The way Bug explained it last night was plunge the ball to right flipper, then shatz it to the left return lane. If it goes up the left return lane and hits that drop target, you get the super secret skill shot.

The phantom claws are the servo plugs on the bottom left of the board. Maybe during the board swap you got them plugged in reversed or in the wrong slots so they don't get the correct signals?

Quick question... Should the lights on the action button and flippers have a flicker to it?

My lights are very obviously flickering.

Thanks.

I have this too. But it seems to only affect certain colors. White, yellow/ orange are bad. But then red, blue, purple are fine.
What’s even weirder, I had to revert back to prior code 4.13.16. If I load the newest 4.18.17 my lights are stuck blue, flipper button color is stuck white and lockdown bar circle of Leds has 2 that get stuck purple. Soon as I go back to 4.13.16 everything fine again.

My left flipper light is barely on, right flipper and action button are flickering noticeably.

Additionally, the optos are all messed up. As you see, the left inner and right outer optos are active when they shouldn't be, but when I try to play, you can't hit the white shots on the left outer or right inner.

Basically, you can start modes because it register those 4 white shots.

Does this sound like an opto issue, or a board issue?

Thanks

For some positive news….. #200 (butter) landed Monday. Can’t see any problems thus far. This is my third Spooky and most fun of them I have experienced. Bug’s tutorial was very helpful. SpookyBug THANK YOU!!

Tried to get a decent side pic so those on the fence about butter can see. It’s beautiful but of course cost worth is in the eye of the spender. My ACNC had decals and looked great too.

OK, I don't have a Scooby yet to cant test this on mine.

Switches 51 and 52, they are both optos?

If you throw the game into switch test, do they register at all with a ball or your finger or whatever?

Can you find where those switches are plugged into the board?

Are they plugged into the correct spots?

Are they plugged in upside down or something?

Putting it in test mode, if I roll a ball, it registers shots on the left outer and right inner only, as the other two orbits are not working as per my photo.

However, in a game, those 4 orbit shots will be lit white, and none of them will register a shot.

How does that even make sense?

We use both optos in the orbits to register a shot being completed. So if one opto goes down then the orbits won't be able to register completely.

Have you looked at the expansion board that those optos are plugged into? And then from that expansion board is a harness that plugs into the Warden itself. I would check over those to make sure everything is seated well and no wires popping out of connectors.

While I am still excited for Scooby Doo and think Spooky did a great job on this one, I may be looking to go in a different direction at this point in time. That being the case, and to ensure those who have later build dates on this thread are aware, I have put up my pre-order spot (#539) for sale (pre-order spot is through Jason at Classic Game Rooms). I have an ad in the marketplace where anyone interested in perhaps getting an earlier build slot can get the details. Please also feel free to PM me as well. I'm not looking to hijack this thread so please do respond via PM only.

Now back to Scooby Doo chatter...

To each their own and all the best to you! It’s a wild time for buying NIB with an incredible list of options recently released. I feel very fortunate to have had the chance to play all the new prospects I’d consider buying at an empty Ayce Gogi a few months ago. I went all chips in on the pin that immediately presented the most fun to me, Scooby. Foo Fighters was a blast with a brilliant layout but I already own a GZ and it’s enough of challenge that FF felt redundant. Godfather left me with zero ‘just one more game’ feel and the playfield felt confusingly cluttered. Galactic Tank Force was frustrating to shoot and the 3D printed toys killed the cost-to-quality factor for me. The P3 machine was down for service.

I just wanna have fun when flipping…others want something else…there’s something for everyone!

Well said.

We haven't had a chance to play Foo (no desire to play GF or GTF). When we saw Scooby (I was very late to even find out it was being made) I knew we had to have it. Then we saw it for real and played it and the wife was like I want this one.

We also finally played GZ a few months ago (been out of the pin world for a while and was behind on this too) and at the arcade we both kept coming back to it over and over (Star Wars was the other we did that way too) so as soon as I found a localish one we grabbed it. Been playing the heck out of it and CCR that we got as well. We cannot wait for Scooby to arrive (should be some time in June based on production).

Excellent illustration, thank you so much. The reflection of your window blinds really showcases the reflectivity and depth of the clear.

Of course it's killing me as I had convinced myself that I was going to go decals on this one due to the increase over what I paid for butter on my R&M. Now I'm thinking I need to see about selling a kidney or some other body part I don't technically need. Too late to sell the kids, they're all grown. Dammit!

Officially in the house.

Two days of playing Scooby.
Stunningly beautiful pin!

Before plugging it in I spent a good hour or more going over every connection, every solder joint, all mechanisms. Checked for anything loose.

Happy to report that almost everything was rock solid. I had one plastic that was put on a little crooked and pressed against the side blade.
Found two screws attached to the playfield that were stripped.
Purple wireform was too far to the right, likely the reason the plastic was jammed into the side blade.
Right flipper button isn’t lightning.
Not sure if the next items are code related but I’m not feeling much strength from the shaker, its almost a sound and not a vibration. As far as the flipper/speaker/topper lighting goes, I reset the LED board so that I would have the color changing feature but when I turn the game off, the next time I turn it on again it goes back to the solid blue. (Email was sent to service just today)

Love the game so far. Feels dialed in right out of the box! Layout is really cool and fun. The quality of the build is top notch. Sound is great, lighting is one of the best. Art package is awesome. Playfield finish is smooth and shiny probably the best of playfield finishes.
This is my first Spooky pin. Spooky has great communication and are some really nice people!
Thanks to all at Spooky for making this a really good experience for us! Love, love, love all the humor built into your machines! Pinball is what makes me happy and Spooky did a fabulous job making me happy with “The Scooby Doo by Spooky”

#4447 4 months ago

Still no issues with my game and I was very early adopter. Only tweak with pulling the wire form to allow the ball to pass and moving plastic over that was rubbing. There was a screw in the bottom of the cabinet but didn’t see any missing so I think it was just overlooked. Overall loving the game and no regrets buying. It’s my favorite pin and it’s setup right next to Godzilla LE (which had 4 bad node boards and took over 18 months to get working properly)

Spooky

Got this bug. Was a short game. Pretty much just kept going up the mid ramp. Hit all the clues and then cutter. Got the cutter multiball. During it, I got 2 balls to go down the left ramp to the side apron lock at the same time. One was ejected down back into game, the 2nd stayed up there during play. Eventually drained out and on to next ball. My next ball never ejected into shooter lane and the one stayed in the apron.

Even after manually putting a ball in the shooter lane by hand, the game detected it and ejected it into play but the flippers were not active. Eventually reset the game and everything worked including the left apron detecting a ball and dropping it into play. Clearly not a mechanical or opto issue. Gameplay bug(?)

Does anyone know how to remove the upper pf with all of these wires?

I disconnected the CAT cables, but the wires just seem really tied down.

Anyone?

Fortunately (knock on wood) I haven't had to take my upper off. But, if it's like the uppers in UM and some other games the slack to pull it up is tied up underneath the PF. I bet there's a bundle with 8 inches or a foot of cable that's cable tied into other wires. Take some pictures and snip the ties to get room to work. Good luck
