Quoted from Titokombo:

Now I want to figure out how to put the old topper in a shadow box for some cool office art. My daughter would love it in her room I'm sure. Conversion kits go!

Quoted from GCS2000:

Its multiple pieces just mounted to the top of the backbox from underneath and then some LED lighting.
Shouldn't be too hard to mount in the same manner to a 1x6 cut to length and then complete the box. Grab a cheap LED strip off amazon with a remote and you should be in business.
Need to have some basic woodworking to make a box frame.

I modified my topper adding a mystery machine on the side. In the process I added an LED channel so that the LED strip lights shine on the back of the topper plastics vs. pointed at the ceiling. The lighting effect is now much more pronounced. You could probably do the same with your "shadow box".

Quoted from GCS2000:

GZ topper did this but then they made the special mode available via regular play w/o the topper as well.

They did? Awesome...I honestly didn't know they made it available to all...gotta go check it out!

I don't think this is correct.

It's only correct if hockeymutt disapproves it, BallyKISS1978 questions it and F__U says 'Stooky' 3 times while looking in the mirror.

PinballStar tacks another $36 onto the order to cover PayPal fees

Or work out a different payment method with him.

Looking at new options for my next NIB pin because it turns out I'm not going to be getting the one I thought I was.
Don't want to read through 190 pages to find out so can someone just tell me: Does this game have a shark that eats a ball?

Nope…not this game…but TCM has a door that eats the ball.

Just an FYI, the listing says “ *If you bought your Scooby machine through a distributor you MUST buy it from them!*.” You might want to check with Spooky before ordering direct.

Ok - now that was funny!

#9509 8 months ago

Ordered my topper. Just have to go pick up my machine, which I now won't have time to do for a couple of weeks after missing my opportunity to have it direct shipped and landed in Dec.

#9510 8 months ago

Has to be among the best toppers I'm pinball. Stoked. I absolutely love the simplicity of the normal topper and the famous quote and it will make a nice future display.

#9511 8 months ago

Right on Spooky!!!!

Yes, make animated toppers..... and sell them!! Great move!!!

Does anyone know if the old topper would be reusable somehow? Or are the lights are how the operate only tied through the game CPU. Like not any option to just plug it in separately and have the lights operate?

I would think it would. Not sure what the light strip is…5v or 12v. I haven’t looked at it, but was going to do just that.

We'll figure out a solution and make it as easy as possible. Right off hand it would require a light driver board and 5v power. Right now it would only play the startup lightshow, but we might be able to code that up pretty quickly too. EDIT: I should clarity. We have parts on hand that will make this possible.

They will not work with just 5v. They are "smart" LEDs that require a special signal.

They are 2812B LED strips driven by an arduino in the backbox. It would be possible to write some code that would do something similar in a standalone manner.

I have an extra arduino board. I’m using one with wled-native installed to run my addressable lights on my Jetsons playfield wall hanger…if I hook the leds from the topper to the arduino and get an adapter for power…would this work?

yes, you could use one of the WLED programs or write your own.

Quoted from Jammer55826:

This is the downside of ordering through distributors. My shipping was $70 as well from Nitro Pinball. I almost wish I had ignored the warning to order through the original distro and bought directly through Spooky.

The topper will ship from Spooky they have requested that we charge a $70 fee. I’m sure they’ve done their homework with UPS and insurance.

#9521 8 months ago

As to shipping, when I ordered through Spooky, there were two options; a $70 flat rate, and a UPS rate ($24 for my location). It defaults to the $70 option. I’m not sure what “flat rate” means as to how it ships.

Mine was $27 for UPS shipping I believe which I selected but it defaulted to $70 shipping after I completed check out. Spooky care to weigh in why two options shown but defaulted to the more expensive flat rate shipping?

#9523 8 months ago

Any dimension on the lcd?

#9524 8 months ago

Is the logo removable like with the topper for TMNT? I don't mind it, but I knowbhaving the title repeated near the backglass can be repetitive. Smart choice to go with the standard purple. I know you wanted the backglass to have the exact original type and font including no dash but licensing wanted how it is spelled now.

I think the lower shipping was a website error which is why it was removed shortly after.

I’m sure hoping this code update is extremely MASSIVE since they just pulled this garbage with the topper on the game for all the collectors edition owners that they promised they were getting the full featured game, since we haven’t had a code update for SEVERAL MONTHS

I bought the ce so I can get all the extras and a complete game. Now seems I am missing a mode and they seem to work on this new mode and different topper even before adding new code for more than just high scores , unless the reveal of the new code shows that we have more to do than just achieve high score achievements anyone can be pissed off.
So do Ce buyers need to put more money out to get a mode now not included in the game? Will new Ce orders come with the new mode and new topper? Big wtf and never buying new in box ever again. From any manufacturer as they all seem to want to fug the buyers of their products

It sounds like there will be some great new features coming for us regardless of topper. And no, new purchases won’t be getting this included; it’s a way more expensive topper than what comes with the CE. The only thing the topper adds to the game is a new video mode that doesn’t seem all that must-have (you’re getting the non-video part of it without the topper). I’m a little disappointed too because I don’t have the money budgeted to spend right now (it was just Christmas!). I think in the end, spooky has made a super cool topper at a very reasonable price (as toppers go); get the topper because you want to put something amazing on top of your machine and don’t get too worked up if you don’t buy it (I did, but I’ve calmed down now lol.)

I couldn’t agree more SPOOKY really pissed off their owners that supported them and my bet would be they will do it again on their current game. Just not right

I’m really appalled by the way some of you are acting (overreacting) here. Spooky’s puts out a CE loaded with toys and tons of extras for $3k less then a Stern LE that has half the bling. Scooby was actually cheaper then a Halloween CE. I’m not a huge topper guy so I appreciate the upfront savings and having the option to add a $1k topper after the release. Spooky shouldn’t have to come on here and defend themselves at all. They are one of the best pinball company out there as far as customer service and giving us a solid build. Sure games have issues but any manufacturer does. Just really disturbing hearing some of you react the way you did to a freaking topper. Honestly a topper like that being fully interactive and being under $1k is a steal compared to some of these static plastic ones that basically just give you a light show. Looking forward to the update and the stream tonight. Have a great day!

Look, probably none of you care about my opinion. That's fair. Here's my take.

I immediately ordered a Scooby CE as soon as I saw the basic layout and gameplay.

I ordered the CE because I wanted all the bells and whistles, and that's EXACTLY WHAT I GOT.

Every single extra that was available over a year ago when they launched the game, that's what I got.

The understanding that they would keep upgrading the code, fixing bugs and adding features, that is a given.

This new topper, which I personally think looks amazing and has great features is AN EXTRA.

NOT available at all a year ago, and maybe not ever, if say they didn't sell as many games as they hoped.

We STILL got a full-featured packed game for less that Stern charges for their LE; a LOT less.

We are not getting "screwed over" by Spooky, they are offering AN EXTRA. Frankly it's a topper that has twice the appeal of Stern's toppers for about half the price of a lot of the toppers out there. Sure there's a video mode that only comes with the topper, but Spooky said they were ALSO giving it to all non-topper owners who can qualify that mode and run it as a Hurry-Up.

Want to look at some actual fuckery? Stern has locked the King of The Monsters Challenge Mode to their Godzilla Topper ONLY for a thousand bucks, and that's a feature (the Challenge Mode) they previously gave out to everyone for free starting with JP. Now it's behind a paywall and the rest of the GZ owners get NOTHING.

Take a good look at what you get from Stern for a grand: https://shop.sternpinball.com/products/godzilla-topper

and compare that to the Scooby topper - not even in the same ball park.

You can feel about this however you want, I think it's both entirely fair and a bargain compared to the competition.

Well said Russ and I enjoy your opinions and help with troubleshooting too. Flash71 hats off to your comments as well. This is the only company that goes out of their way to help us and interacts with us on the forums and weekends if you hit them up via email. Additionally what other company does fun streams with Q&A afterwards, and merchandise giveaways too. I'm definitely not disappointed in my purchase of a CE, nor do I feel slighted in any shape or form. This is supposed to be a fun hobby, if you don't enjoy how you believe these companies are screwing you...please, sell your machines to people that love the hobby.

Pretty much agree with this - the CEs are already so much better value than a Stern LE and you basically have a guarantee from Spooky that they will NOT make any further editions or versions of their machines, and quite honestly these days that means a hell of a lot. Would you seriously buy an (overpriced) LE from Stern now fully confident that a better, shinier edition wasn't being released later on?

Anything extra that comes after the machine production is exactly that - extra. You buy it or you dont. You still have your CE topper and you still have your game, along with its bells and whistles, that you paid for.

For them to go and produce another totally gobsmacking topper that you would not have had included for the same money is only a plus in my book. It might be a tad too expensive for me so I'm still deciding (very tough), but good on them for making something so awesome for us owners.

#9538 8 months ago

Totally agree with Flash71, RussMeyers, Ceemunkey and usafstars. Spooky could not have done this in a more fair. We already got a top deal on our machines.

Most fair option is no to introduce a topper at all. But that is bad idea because I love this topper and ordered one.

RussMyers and Flash71 Thank you both for taking the time to be a voice of reason, well said and I could not agree more!

Quoted from RussMyers: Sure there's a video mode that only comes with the topper, but Spooky said they were ALSO giving it to all non-topper owners who can qualify that mode and run it as a Hurry-Up.

Just for clarification for those trying to decide whether to purchase the new topper....I don't believe non-topper owners can run the video mode as a Hurry-Up. I believe the Hurry-Up qualifies the video mode and and the non-topper owners (if they qualify the mode) are awarded a Hurry-Up value, not a Hurry-Up mode to mimic the video mode.

Just my interpretation from what Spooky has said. Of course, I've been wrong before.

Hmm. You might be right about that. We'll have to wait until the reveal stream tonight.

Of course....Spooky COULD (probably pretty easily) code a gimme mode for non-topper owners for that mode that is non-video but still fun to do.

Why not just put the new video mode on the main screen for those without toppers?

That would work for me. I'm "probably" going to buy a topper and I don't care if everyone gets whatever special topper things there are, code-wise.

Exactly. I'm 99% going to end up with the topper as well. But seems there should be an easy solution to provide essentially same gameplay for everyone by just putting the game on the main display for those without toppers.

#9548 8 months ago

What a #}{##} comment. If more add on stuff was going to be sold or implemented then they could have kept the Ce topper and deducted what it was worth and contact me later with the new topper price and could purchase that instead of charging what they did and then make one better with a mode only attached to it and offer me that topper . But nope , make us believe we get the full CE only package only to launch another add on to any model buyer. Not sure how doing that is defendable though. I guess you Flash are ok with it and a few more upvoted it and so some more are ok with it as well.

I can not be the only buyer not to get off the Nib purchasing train for this company and other companies . It is not a good business practice period

#9549 8 months ago

Also releasing this before finishing the main code or completing building all 1969 is also a bad business model. Could have put it on the back burner and released it later would have softened the blow to me and perhaps others

I believe Spooky said they'd make these in batches based on demand - so no set number.
