There are a few great resources for Scared Stiff here on pinside, and in particular an awesome place to find a wealth of info is in the thread spfxted started a few years back:

"Scared Stiff Owner's Club"

Also a big mention to RobertWinter who is "The" legendary Scared Stiff guru, and has almost a lifetime of knowledge shared around here.

In a quest to mod the heck out mine:
* I wanted to create a go-to thread for those looking for particular mods
* list where to find the relevant supplies on the internet
* list the various ideas that have already been shared

As this thread grows, I plan to add a table of contents to make it easy to jump to the various mods. I've done a lot already and since I'll be adding more things in the near future, I figured I would keep all my notes in the same place.

Hope this helps other pinsiders looking for some tips with Scared Stiff. Please feel free to chime in any time with your thoughts and ideas. Happy Modding!

Where to find Boogie Men (Rubber Monster Finger Puppets)

#2 7 years ago

Where to find those rubber, jiggly armed Boogie-Men these days?

I'm going to follow some other pinsiders and try to make my own dancing boogie men. But the downside is that the little monster arms self-amputate over time, so replacements will be vital. I've been searching the internet for a while now and noticed that while you can find some that look similar to the originals, they are not the nicest quality. Pretty rare to find any good looking boogie men from back in the day (in terms of quality, color, etc) but I found a few very interesting internet shops.

Closest to Original Boogie-Men
I just ordered a few from this shop (UK based shop with a US store as well).
They are colorful and have more detail and thicker arms like the old 80s-90s boogies:

This shop seems to sell the same:

Same good quality BoogiesSame good quality Boogies

These seem different then the previous shops, but also have nice colors and detail (Plastic Penny Toy Puppet)

Decent Substitutes
The more mainstream boogie men can be found here (on amazon), and these are still pretty colorful.

Low Quality and very Basic
The cheapest looking, in terms of quality and arm thickness are here.
I'm of the opinion that these thinner arms might break off more easily.

Once I get the order in, I'll post some photos of what they actually look like. Sometimes what you get in the mail is quite different than what they advertise.
Cheers,
Tom

Here are a couple of cool mods for Scared stiff pinball. The classic Eyeball shooter is hand painted and clearcoated for a deep shine. It can be made in a small 1 1/2 inch diameter or the larger 2 inch diameter. The custom PinCup is painted to mimic the crate design on the games cabinet design. These and other neat-O mods can be seen at www.modfatherpinball.com
