Quoted from ThatOneDude:

This is an early version, with a lot of noise and tearing in the signal(it's clean now, but I don't have a newer video), but I have pinmame running on a Raspberry Pi and drawing to a physical DMD:
I'm playing with a custom SS build, and I'm using the Pi to run the ROMs.
Also, does anyone have a source for the actual spider in the backglass?

Is this connected to a virtual table, or are you focused on recreating the A/V board with the Pi? That is very cool

Very cool! Who’s the chick though? That’s not Cassandra

Quoted from Coyote:

Do NOT use LEDs on these - you will lose the whole cool 'fading' effect that the lamp effects give off!

You can also install a GIOCD which does a phenomenal job on the fading effects!

Edit: actually I’m not sure if those lamps are controlled by the GI, will check when I get home!

Quoted from whthrs166:

It’s a lot harder. Since Nordman did both titles the passages are simular. I can actually shoot Secret Passage on WW not on SS.

I just got gr secret passage on a throw away game today. My second one in a month! But you can’t hit it on purpose. It’s like the SIM card shot on dialed in. Just pure luck.

Got some great mods installed this weekend - LEDOCD, GIOCD (still not sure if this is all that helpful on this game), the bony beast eye mod, Stern anti-glare glass, speaker upgrades! And these awesome lit hinge mods:

Love that eye mod. Way creative and looks incredible. Congrats looks Awesome!

Thanks! I am looking at reprogramming those eyes to see if I can try some additional styles, may get to it in a few weeks

Quoted from delt31:

Take some video of the eyes of possible interested to see if that's worth it. I was thinking speaker upgrade too what did you go for?

There's video on the Bony Beast mod thread - the pupils go back and forth, "looking around", and blink. it doesn't interact with the game but it's active enough it doesn't really matter

for the speaker upgrade, I rolled my own - added an L-Pad and a new 8" 4ohm high efficiency speaker (I think it was $25?) and 2 brand new 2-way 5.25" backbox speakers which were $25 a pair or something.

If I were to do it again, I'd absolutely skip the backbox speaker upgrade; it just doesn't matter. The stock speakers are "ok" which is all that is needed for the stock music in the game. were I upgrading to a PinSound and adding my own music and callouts, it would be worth it.

The woofer is very important (make sure it's 4ohm on DCS and WPC95 games!!) but the absolute critical thing is the L-Pad. Flipper Fidelity and Pinball Pro include this (it's the little 'volume control' thing). This is the secret sauce IMO. Adds bass (as much as you want) where before there was so almost none to be found.

This game had horribly tinny sound before, zero bass, the backbox speakers would hurt your head if it was up too loud, and the cab speaker was basically not doing anything. Now, it is much improved. My particular game (to my horror, as I missed it when I originally got it) has a Rottendog A/V board, and that may(?) have something to do with the weak sound. I don't know - but it is killer now.

Quoted from delt31:

thanks. I already have a sub and it sounds great. My backbox speakers sound very good too. Here's the only problem - maybe it's just me but it feels like the left speaker is louder than right. I looked at the speakers and the left one is twice the size! Is that normal? Anyone experience this/ I'm wondering if i change them would it help or maybe I'm just crazy and hearing things.
Sound is very full though.

Yes that is normal. The left is a 5 inch and the right is a 3 inch. They are ganged together in series - basically acting as one big speaker. That is weird if it’s your radio, but these games have mono sound - so there’s no need for the speakers to be matched. Cheaper for the factory too!

That said, if you have PinSound and a stereo track (like say you upgrade the sound in Indiana Jones to play the cd quality soundtrack from the movie), THEN you want matched speakers in stereo.

But yeah I think all WPc games have the 5” and 3” speakers

Thanks whthrs166, this is my first pin and I am having a blast! I'll have the Dancing Boogiemen 3D printed parts done later this week, and I have been eyeing (pun intended) the skull pile LED's. Do you have any more details for the Prosound mod you mentioned? Did you possibly mean PinSound(I just found that website)?
rdoyle1978 , that eye mod is so awesome! I found a french website that sells them, is that where you got it?

I believe so - I bought the game from a friend, and he had the mod already on the way. Absolutely a must-have, but beware you
Do need to be SUPER careful not to cause a short; there's just not much room in that head

If I may, Pinsound is NOT a must-have for this title. Perhaps he meant "Pinball Pro" or Flipper fidelity, which I obviously think is a very important mod for this game in particular

Hi,
Where do you install your lighted hinge mods ?? Can you send me a picture please ?

The installed pictures are on this page, several posts up -

But are you asking where to connect everything? They connect to the service outlet inside the game

Many thanks for your answer.
I Want to know where you connect your 12V 1A "wall wart" AC adapter plug (converts 100-240V 50-60hz to 12V) (1 M of wire)
In your pinball machine ?
If you have a picture ...
many thanks again ...

Inside the machine, on the right side inside the coin door is the game power box. The wall wart plugs into the outlet on that box. You may need one of these: https://www.pinballlife.com/index.php?p=product&id=2232

What does everyone think about the music on this game, as far as it being balanced? Mine has a Rottendog a/v board on it, and it was sounding extremely tinny. So much high end, no bass st all.

replaced the speakers and it is much improved but I just compare it to my Monster Bash which sounds like a damn bomb went off with all the bass. (It has FF speakers) I am thinking about swapping the A/V boards and seeing the result, but if that’s just how the game sounds, I won’t bother. In other words, I’m curious if it’s the rottendog board or just how the music is mixed

Quoted from weaverj:

my SS had pinball pros in it. thought it was fine. factory boards though.

PinballPro and FF have basically the same configuration, crossover (which really isn’t needed on WPC95 games), etc. So I still suspect the rottendog board. Argh...

#3070 5 years ago

Made it to Monster Multiball for the first time today! Had 2 crap games and made it there on ball 2! I even started Scared Stiff twice!

I think I must have Gotten 3 extra balls.. all of which I basically wasted after getting MMB *shrug*

Any of you guys that haven't done the Black Out mod (Pinbits) on SS, should consider it. It blacks out the GI in the BB when the PF GI goes out. That means that when you spin the spider your doing it in the dark. Very Cool! And a bit more challenging. Also on summation (Game Over) when the flashers are on the Monsters/Wolves Eyes are very bright. Well worth the $35.

Also worth noting is that the GIOCD board can do the same thing - you set the #4 and #5 string to react to string #1 and it will also shut off, just like the pinbits mod. A bit more
Expensive but has other very important benefits..

Anyone have any thoughts on this before I open it up to the full forum? It's weird bc game plays fine.

Sounds like you have a loose connection or the opto is starting to go bad. Check your wiring and solder connection. This is one of those things that happens on these games, the way the trough is set up those optos take a beating
