Quoted from whthrs166:Did you pick up a SS? And not tell me! hmmm.... some friend
Not yet but hopefully soon.
Hello Stiffers! FINALLY in the club! Picked this one up over the weekend from a local pinsider and couldn’t be more happy. He had it in his collection for the last 10 years getting minimal play. Pretty great condition overall I think. No mods other than some LEDs. Cleaned her up and it plays great other than the coffin kicker sometimes takes a few tries to get coffin multiball going. All the mechs could probably use a good cleaning and some new rubbers would do wonders. Psyched!! Need to save for mods now....I’m sure I’ll have questions. Rock on!

What is the best way to get the colored look on all the backbone pieces?
My machine has version 1.2 as well, bought the 1.5 ROM from Matt’s Basement Arcade. Looking forward to seeing the difference in the animations for coffin multiball plus you need this version ROM in order to get a color DMD.
Added over 3 years ago:EDIT: You do not need version 1.5 to install the color DMD it will work with 1.2 you just may not have all frames colored as intended.
Dang, this sure is a slow thread, where are all you stiffers? I have an issue where some lamps come on/flash when you press the flippers or ball hits other switches. I was hoping to upload a video but the extra ball and the 3 on the stiff o meter go on. Any ideas to what is causing this?
They are non ghosting. When you check individual lamps no others go on which I thought was a good way to test.
Check the opto and opto wires in that popper assembly. Clean the opto with some alcohol and q-tips. Replace the opto if needed.
Anybody know where to get the blue plasma disk mod by chance? I see battery operated ones but not ideal for a pinball machine.
I have some spare parts I’m looking to sell. Have 2 coffin popper weldments, one brand new ($75 shipped) and one used that is slightly bent at the coffin lockout but has the coffin decal ($45 shipped). It worked fine before taking out, just wanted a perfect coffin. Also have a set of painted lane guides ($16 shipped).

Also, does anybody know for certain what type of lamp sockets are under the ramp entrances so I can order the right LED lamps? Probably go with warm white in both.
EDIT: Never mind. Found thread which described this exact issue.
Anybody know why no body carries the leaper frog target switches, part # A-20783-7? Has this switch been discontinued? Also saw on the Pinball Center website that Part # A-16816-7 which is a standup target switch black, small (rear mount) that the mount can be changed to be used on Scared Stiff. Is this correct? Marco carries the A-16816-7 switch and it looks like the mounting bracket can be switched to either the front or the back.

Anyone know where to get the leaper switches or if the ones above would work if you can change the mount.
Does anybody have an extra boney beast rib? I have one that busted when I was opening it wider to go over the ramp sides. All I need is one. Thanks.
Marco should have this ramp and it’s expensive. You could try super gluing washers of the right size, one on the bottom and one on top making your own hole to remount and hold secure.
Quoted from ccbiggsoo7:don't buy there, you will just overpay. starship fantasy has them brand new. so does planetary pinball. personally id put 2 big washers there and forget it.
Right. Both of those places you mentioned are just as much if not more than Marco. Do your deligence before you post BS.
Quoted from dnaman:Very interesting to hear this. Everything on this SS in that area is brand new (or new old stock) from the full ramp to the full spider VUK assembly but I am just getting too many rejects. I've tried everything that I can think of to dial it in but still rejects too often. I will try to make this piece up but it doesn't give me a
Went to a friend's place tonight to look at his scared stiff and I am clearly missing a full second flap! (lower gate trap door and flap). Although I have now found a detailed description of what is missing, there doesn't seem to be either any photos or detailed diagram anywhere, including in the manual.
The description of the assembly is:
'Bally SCARED STIFF pinball machine A-21032 Trapdoor Assembly'.
Of the itemized parts which make up the assembly, I do actually have the 01-14385.1 bracket installed along with the #12-7365 wire gate on it. This is the wire/gate on the upper side of the spider hole (when you short plunge, the ball opens the wire gate and drops into the topside of the spider hole). I assume that most SS owners have this bracket and wire gate, as well as the flap which is riveted right on the beast ramp itself, covering the back portion of the hole in the beast ramp.
Now on the 01-14385.1 bracket, there is an extended top which has two holes to hinge (using the straight wire/bar hinge 12-7346) the missing the gate trap door, which should also have a long flap riveted to it. This flap goes through the beast ramp hole and rests on the front (not the one that sits above it riveted to the actual beast ramp. So when the ball is kicked up from the spider VUK, it hits the underside of the long flap on the gate trap door bracket and lifts letting the ball up and onto the beast ramp, it then closes behind to prevent the ball from going back down into the VUK.
Missing:
04-10457.1 gate trap door (this is apparently not pictured or available anywhere)
12-7346 Wire hinge (straight wire/bar)
2 rivets and flap (although I don't need the 2 rivets)
Here are some pictures of what is full assembly, installed is supposed to look like. If anyone know where to order the 04-10457.1 gate trap door, please let me know otherwise I will try to make something.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Does anybody know where to get a replacement gate trap door? Mine recently seems to fall off the ramp edge and hangs down which stops the ball from going up from the VUK and into the right ramp. When it’s in the right position flapping above the hole the kickout works great. Mine seems like it needs to be extended so it stays on the ramp edge and over the top of the hole.
Edit: Found one at Marco but looks like you have to rivet it in yourself.
I bought a new boney beast ramp a while back too and have yet to replace it but the tape sounds like a cheap option. I’ll give it a try thanks.
Anybody have an extra set of sling shot plastics you can sell at a reasonable price? Wish someone would re-create the original ones as some of the others I’ve seen look weird.
Having a real weird opto problem on switches 37-left (crate) kickout and 42-middle coffin lock. The opto on the crate kickout works for a while when testing and then stops. Come back a little later and it does the same thing. Opto on switch 42 will work once or twice in test mode and then stops. Come back latter and it works once or twice then stops again. Both the transmitter and receiver on both switches have been changed out to new ones. Is there a problem with my 16 switch opto board underneath the playfield and how do I troubleshoot that? Why do both switches work intermittently and then stop?
Quoted from ccbiggsoo7:id try reflowing solder on the board
Ended up being faulty opto receivers even though they were new. Got replacements and all is good.
Anyone have an extra set of the 3 leaper frogs on a stick or know a U.S. shop that sells them? Everywhere I check, they are discontinued. Don’t want to order from out of the country. Quality sucks.
Stick with warm or cool white for the back box inserts. I tried color and it doesn’t look good IMO. The inserts themselves have good colors and colored LED’s just washes out the art in those inserts. It’s all preference tho. Welcome to the club!
