I apologize in advance regarding this question as I am not sure if it has been asked in various ways.

Is it common to have an issue with the right VUK not always kicking the ball onto the ramp above? I am looking at a restored SS and it seems that early games seem to fire up and onto the ramp with success and then it seems to be fit and miss. the current owner has bent the blue steel flap up a little which helps but sometimes the pin tries a few times and then the ball ejects under the ramp onto the PF.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks!

Great to hear! Thanks for the detailed suggestion

Quoted from Pbgixxer:

Anyone know why there is two holes in the remote and two under the flipper pivot points . I know about the adjustment holes . I’m thinking maybe there is suppose to be a wire guide or something .

You are correct, there are holes for a ball wire guide under each flipper. I am not sure they were never installed but the clear dimples into the holes.

Officially joined the club tonight with a gorgeous restore!

The VUK does have trouble kicking the ball up to the ramp sometimes. I will have to try some of the suggestions and maybe slow motion video capture the action.

Fun pin though and a cool theme.

Still having issues will the spider VUK kick up and forward. Although it often works, there will be times when it doesn't.

I had a friend send me pics of his, which never has kick out issues and see that he has this metal arch over the hole on/above the ramp. Any references online show this as a ramp 'ramp fix U bracket'. I've seen a couple of other owners in here with this installed. Is this supposed to solve the kick up problem or help protect the ramp and spine?

Went to a friend's place tonight to look at his scared stiff and I am clearly missing a full second flap! (lower gate trap door and flap). Although I have now found a detailed description of what is missing, there doesn't seem to be either any photos or detailed diagram anywhere, including in the manual.

The description of the assembly is:
'Bally SCARED STIFF pinball machine A-21032 Trapdoor Assembly'.

Of the itemized parts which make up the assembly, I do actually have the 01-14385.1 bracket installed along with the #12-7365 wire gate on it. This is the wire/gate on the upper side of the spider hole (when you short plunge, the ball opens the wire gate and drops into the topside of the spider hole). I assume that most SS owners have this bracket and wire gate, as well as the flap which is riveted right on the beast ramp itself, covering the back portion of the hole in the beast ramp.

Now on the 01-14385.1 bracket, there is an extended top which has two holes to hinge (using the straight wire/bar hinge 12-7346) the missing the gate trap door, which should also have a long flap riveted to it. This flap goes through the beast ramp hole and rests on the front (not the one that sits above it riveted to the actual beast ramp. So when the ball is kicked up from the spider VUK, it hits the underside of the long flap on the gate trap door bracket and lifts letting the ball up and onto the beast ramp, it then closes behind to prevent the ball from going back down into the VUK.

Missing:
04-10457.1 gate trap door (this is apparently not pictured or available anywhere)
12-7346 Wire hinge (straight wire/bar)
2 rivets and flap (although I don't need the 2 rivets)

Here are some pictures of what is full assembly, installed is supposed to look like. If anyone know where to order the 04-10457.1 gate trap door, please let me know otherwise I will try to make something.

Quoted from Nihonmasa:

I actually removed it on mine, flap was hitting it, causing rejects.
I've set it aside just in case but it works better without it in mine.

Quoted from jchybro:

Same. Works almost flawless without it so i kept it off. sometimes takes 2 tries but overall 95% success.

Very interesting to hear this. Everything on this SS in that area is brand new (or new old stock) from the full ramp to the full spider VUK assembly but I am just getting too many rejects. I've tried everything that I can think of to dial it in but still rejects too often. I will try to make this piece up but it doesn't give me a lot of hope hearing this.

Does anyone have a completed file set for Pin2DMD available? I am ready to donate to the cause.

Quoted from ccbiggsoo7:

anybody know where to get the full flipper assemblies for this game. what's factory coil that comes on each?

Just a PSA for those who might have experienced what I have.

Back in 2019 a friend did a beautiful restore on the SS that we purchased. I always found that the right flipper seemed sluggish but just accepted it. It wasn't until this past weekend when I started to experience some binding in the flipper that I delved in. Looking underneath, there was some black carbon dust on the flipper link and pawl etc... but I immediately noticed that the two flipper coils weren't the same. The right flipper coil was a white label and the left coil was a blue label.

Long story long...

The manual that I have, which the pin was restored is a Preliminary release and shows:

SS Manual: July 1996 16-500484A-101 [Preliminary]

Oddly, every reference to the two main flipper coils do show as FL-11629 (BLUE), EXCEPT for the actual exploded assembly diagrams!

(page 2-16) A-14876-R-3 (Right) Flipper assembly: item#12: FL-20867, Flipper Coil WHITE
(page 2-17) A-15849-L-2 (Left) Flipper assembly: items#12: FL-11629, Flipper Coil BLUE (appears to be the strongest flipper coil strength(?))

A WHITE label coil is a weaker coil compared to a BLUE and the only reference that I can find for this coil is that it is for use in a Safe Cracker. Safe Cracker is a smaller sized pinball so understandably it would have weaker flipper coils.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Compare this to the latest online version of the manual from IPDB and clearly this flipper coil was upgraded in the exploded diagram to reflect an FL-11629 for both Left and Right
SS Manual: Sept 1996 16-500484-101 [FINAL]
(page 2-18) A-14876-R-3 (Right) Flipper assembly: item#12: FL-11629, Flipper Coil BLUE
(page 2-19) A-15849-L-2 (Left) Flipper assembly: items#12: FL-11629, Flipper Coil BLUE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Although my binding issue was unrelated to the coil, once I replaced the coil and fixed the binding I could immediately see the difference in play. I can now shoot the crate from the RT flipper with relative ease. Previously every other shot attempt wouldn't make it into the crate, from the RT flipper so I used the LT predominantly.

Hopefully this helps someone else in the future!

Just added this beautiful full restoration SS, my second SS in the last year. Such a great pin!

We're looking for a restored EATPM if you decide to do one that would be for sale

Quoted from neverahighscore:

How are you liking the Scooby-Doo!

Quoted from MattElder:

Honestly, I'm not very happy with it thus far. It was a dream theme for me, so I'm hoping that the code really makes it something special. Right now it just doesn't have the fun factor for me. I'm definitely going to give it a few more code updates, though!

I assume that you now have the latest code but if not definitely update with v2023.08.01.21.

Like all pins, quite subjective although some titles are stinky We love Scooby and those that have visited say the same. I never push titles on guests, with 26 pins in our collection, I let people play what they want and this gets the love. This Spooky pin is seeing a lot of updates, which is great!

These are definitely not the Williams/Bally A list games and can be quite polarizing. I have the Alice Cooper from NIB and also love that pin and theme but it got a ton of hate. I have been contacted from a few members to see if I wanted to sell it, and it is not for sale. Shows to go ya. I won't get into their Halloween78, which I also bought and enjoy. I do want to see more code there however but it's fun. In a large collection, there is plenty of choice so that too might make the greater difference than if I was limited in space or funds, I would have to be very picky.
