Yep, a "friend" bought it
It's nice though.
Price check. Medium condition scared stiff. Incandescent bulbs. Regular DMD. Minor scratches on cab. Slight swelling back of back box. Boards perfect NVRAM. Holes have slight wear that have been touched up nicely.. PF smooth. Everything else average to slightly over average condition.

That's pretty sweet. I want one.
Just added SS to my collection! Been a grail machine for me, and probably traded more than I should have for it, but it was minty, and now mine Now time to read through 80 pages of posts and figure out how to fix the ball getting stuck on the little metal flap after getting ejected from the spider VUK...
The metal flap has to be up even with the ramp. Take off the screws right by that part of the ramp and lift the ramp up a little and the ramp flap lifts up.
After seeing how much some sites wanted for the dancing boogie man mod, I thought I'd see if I could print up a part that would work instead. It clips on to the slingshot arm, so no need to modify anything at all. So far it seems to be holding up, we will see how well the 20 year old boogie men do! Waiting on some color matching filiment, but the shiny gold doesn't look too bad for now.

That's an awesome idea! I'd love to try it on mine if you'd be open to sharing the .stl
Let me get it dialed in and I'll gladly share the .stl. After a few boogies it looks to slipping off the arm, going to try a few things to get it to stay.
Here is what I have so far. Having some issues with durability, but I think it's just the old filament that I am using. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for sharing! I printed two - one with PLA and one with PETG. They fit great. Do you just clip them on?
Print orientation: First attempt was upside down (but upright). The print snapped along a layer while cleaning it up -- clearly not strong enough.
Second attempt was laying the model flat. Looks quite strong so far

The idea is for it to just clip on. I ran into the same problems you did using PLA, I switched to a stiff TPU and couldn't snap it if I tried!
Just received one of these Kreepsville Button up Scared Stiff shirts. The seller had it listed as a Large but it’s an XL so I’m looking to trade it. If anyone has one in a large and is looking to size up hit me up. Also might be willing to just sell it outright if I can’t find a trade.
Edit: also would be willing to trade for an Elvira and the Party Monsters or Whirlwind promo shirt (Large or XL)

Oh my gosh that is cool. Hit me up if you sell that XL!
Hi Guys:
New to the club.....Just wondering what you guys have done as far as adding colored LEDs to the backbox inserts where the spider spins around and you stop the spider?
At the moment, I have white LEDs in all 16 inserts and I wondered if anyone has installed colored LEDs, instead?
If so, can you share what colors you have put on which inserts and are you pleased with the results?
Thanks.
Roger
Stick with warm or cool white for the back box inserts. I tried color and it doesn’t look good IMO. The inserts themselves have good colors and colored LED’s just washes out the art in those inserts. It’s all preference tho. Welcome to the club!
One of my crate critter eyes was flickering, so I decided to try another color and went with green. I like them, but I think the red are the best fit thematically. I re-soldered the red bulb to the board and it works fine again. I’ll change them up from time to time tho. Very easy to swap the boards.

Grail pin I finally got after years of having EATPM and looking for SS
Wanted to ask,I know there has been a lot written about it,I have the spider error
Spins in test lands on 403
Any help with leads to help sort it would be appreciated
Also, not that it matters,I was wondering if the serial number on this unit is 666 cause that would be rad
So happy I finally got one
Hi.
Could someone please take a picture of the connectors of the spider motor ?
I searched the entire gallery but no success.
Thx
Hi Guys:
I have now put a good amount of plays on my Scared Stiff and Elvira never says 'Ah, the Deadheads Family Album' when the ball rolls through one of the deadhead switches. She does say the other quotes.
However, she does say 'Ah, the Deadheads Family Album' when I go into the sound test.
I tried switching to 'family mode' in case there was some connection but it made no difference.
I am running latest code, 1.5.
Is anyone else having this issue or know what the issue could be?
Thanks.
Roger

Is your rollover switch in the left or it lane registering? Check it with a ball, or you finger.
Quoted from djblouw:Is your rollover switch in the left or it lane registering? Check it with a ball, or you finger.
All switches are perfect and registering.
Elvira does speak each time a ball goes into the deadheads but never says 'Ah, the Deadheads Family Album'

This is the picture I needed. Fortunately I solved the problem looking between pictures on the web and the manual.
Maybe someone will take help from It.
The group of cables on the left of the spider motor was cut. I rebuilded them.
Yes, I think there are 6 different dates or so that wish happy birthday to certain people. I’ve seen this a few times on my game. Robert Winter would know best here on Pinside.
Good day fellow SS owners. I'm wondering if anyone here thinks the CPR mirrored backglass is worth the $$$?
I've got a few spots on my translite that have some touch ups I can live with, but my machine is in such good shape that it may merit a real bonafide backglass.
I look forward to hearing from anyone who wants to comment on this.

I've seen multiple CPR in person on various machines and feel they are a bit too high contrast and seem darker than standard translites. For some titles that fits well but for SS I think the softer and more color rich feel of the original works best.
Quoted from Dr-Tommy:I think the softer and more color rich feel of the original works best.
Dr-Tommy ...............................Thx for your input. I've not personally seen one with anything other than an original translite so I really do appreciate your take on the matter.

I have seen some mirrored backglasses with colors that look somewhat darker and where the areas they chose to change to the mirror look felt forced to me. But I purchased and really like the mirrored backglass for Scared Stiff because of the large clear area (for seeing through to the spiderwheel). The mirrored backglass replaces the original glass and translite combination with just clear glass in that area, so the backglass looks a bit clearer to me than the translite.
Hey would anyone know if a set of Cliffy's and Mantis protectors can be installed together in the spider hole? Front and Back?
Quoted from MegadethHangar18:Hey would anyone know if a set of Cliffy's and Mantis protectors can be installed together in the spider hole? Front and Back?
I don't know about your exact question, but I had cliffy at the spider hole and slow balls coming in from above would get stuck against the protector edge, very annoying. My game is set up at ~6.5 degrees so it wasn't a problem with the inclination.
In the end I removed the cliffy and instead mounted a protector (mantis?) that are only in the inside of the hole, not on the topside of the playfield, problem resolved.

Same for me too, just have the Cliffy in the front spider hole but it sometimes caused a hangup with a slow ball arriving at the top. I stuck a piece of mylar in that area to smooth off the ridge, and help keep the ball rolling - has been fine since then.

Cliffy makes a new version for the Spider hole, so no hang ups.

This is what I'm talking about can Cliffy's still be installed as well as these Mantis Spider Hole Protectors ? Cheers

Congratulations. Scared Stiff is also one of my favorite pinball machines.
I see that you and I have a lot of the same games. Nice collection.

thanks , love the 90 classics .
I have two new boney beast skulls that I would like to wash (or shade) with the proper black paint so the contours stand out more. I need to do this before I add the lizard-style eye kit to the glow-in-the-dark skull before swapping it onto my game. What is the best paint (that will allow wiping it off the main surfaces and leaving it in the cracks and low areas) to use for this?
