Quoted from Mad_Dog_Coin_Op:Did Bally actually make one? I thought they were all aftermarket.
All aftermarket, AFAIK.

Quoted from Pinkitten:Just added this beautiful full restoration SS, my second SS in the last year. Such a great pin!
We're looking for a restored EATPM if you decide to do one that would be for sale
Hey guys, I recently picked up a SS and a previous owner put double sided foam tape all over a lot of the parts for some reason. I bought a new set of ramps because I didn't feel like restoring the current ones. There is tape residue on parts of them and they need to be polished up. There is one small bubble at the boney beast entrance but no cracks. Wondering if anyone would be interested in them for say $100? Would also trade for something possibly but don't know for what. Could use a plastic set.

That's cool. Looks great! Did you make that yourself?
I was actually considering making a SS version of the mini monster bash alarm clock/phone charger I made.
You can check it out here.

Can I join? Just got mine. Been waiting years. Excited to start cleaning up.
My first question is: I remember seeing s string on here related to random balls being ejected onto the playfield during play. Can someone point me to the fix for this. I'll just be playing along and all of a sudden the game will eject a random ball onto the field for no reason.
IMG_0383 (resized).jpegIMG_0384 (resized).jpegIMG_0385 (resized).jpegCongrats on the game!
I've never come across the issue of random balls getting launched, but it could be that the game sometimes thinks it has a ball locked. I'd check out all the switches in the diagnostics and make sure nothing is closed when it should be open on the mechanical switches..

I would first find out what is causing your credit dot. That might lead you to your random ball issue.
Quoted from Honch:So how did you make out? Did you find the problem?
It was the trough opto. Added a little solder to the receiver and it’s good as new. Thanks!
I also installed all the Cliffys and now the crate door isn’t registering hits. one step forward......... I checked all the connections and the LED is lit on the proximity sensor but no hits.
That sucks. Hopefully you just knocked something loose. When I first bought mine I went through the same thing, but once I got everything adjusted and dialed in properly, it's been nothing but a rock solid pin. Other than cleaning it over the years, I've only had to replace a couple of switches.

I used the instructions here to fix issues : https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/scared-stiff-crate-problems
Quoted from gundogs:I checked all the connections and the LED is lit on the proximity sensor but no hits.
I just had this issue last week. The LED is not supposed to be on until a ball rolls over the proximity sensor. You can get a small phillips head screwdriver and turn until the red LED just goes out. Then roll the ball over the sensor and the LED should turn red. Sometimes the board just goes out of adjustment. I know back in the day it was suggested to put a dab of glue on the adjustment pot to keep it from getting out of whack. Don't think this is necessary. It's been over 7 years and the first time this happened. Very easy fix. Good luck!
I saw on the Pinbits website that their Auto Eddy Boards we’re out of stock. I hope they are still making them. Sent them any email asking when they might be available.
Quoted from Its_me_aj:Joines the SS club last weekend. I have the commonly broke slingshot plastics. What’s out there for replacements?
Welcome to the club.
I bought a SS about a year ago that also had broken sling plastics. There are many shops that sell repro ones, just check the usual places.
Quoted from BasementFacts:Do I need non-ghosting LED for ALL lamps on the PF since GI is controlled as well?
I don't think so. If I recall, the controlled GI is via relay, so they get constant voltage otherwise. As such, it shouldn't require non-ghosting. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Quoted from BasementFacts:Just scored an incandescent Scared Stiff so those need to go first. Do I need non-ghosting LED for ALL lamps on the PF since GI is controlled as well?
You need non-ghosing for the inserts. Non-ghosting won't do a thing for GI. Though with the effects - both insert AND GI - I would strongly recommend an LEDOCD & GIOCD mod.

Amen to this... Perfect game for the LEDOCD and GIOCD units. Once I installed these, the game looked 200% better with the LEDs.

I picked up a new eddy board from https://www.tanglestech.com/TPP-1023. Works great.
I couldn't find one, so I had to make a coffin diverter. You can have the blades cut from a dwg file that is floating around the "WPC from scratch" groups. I had some of the shafts made. This is a basically unobtainable part, so if you want one of the left over shafts, pm me quick. Only two available at this moment. $25 shipped in the US.
20201016_163117 (resized).jpg20201016_195005 (resized).jpg20201016_195010 (resized).jpgI'm starting down a path and figured I'd post here to have someone to be accountable to
Now that Halloween is over..
..I've started to get to the end of my backlog of Scared Stiff sling plastics..
I'm starting to experiment with getting it scanned / modeled and 3D printed. I'm okay-novice at 3D Modeling components but something with contours like this is outside of my skill set.
I can do two material prints but I'm not an artist so my result will be functional at best and will need to be painted. But.. when I'm done hopefully I'll have a clean .stl file to share for anyone wanting to get their own printed for this part that is getting harder to source.
I'm not even sure if 3D printing them is a good idea but I figured with the wide selection of filament available I should be able to find something that will honor the red transparency and be paintable for the bone and feet.
Right now my donor plastic for scanning is a broken one because I ended up painting it to get a cleaner scan.
On the print side.. I did one in Nylon. It looked crappy but bonus points: I ran it over with my 4Runner and it didn't break.
I did another one in PLA and it looks decent. I'm going to experiment with some translucent PC, heck even a TPU.
Once I get a set modeled and fit tested I'll update here with my progress...
May all of your BONE-US's be huge...

Brilliant! Yeah I'm definitely doing this just for my game and I'll share with anyone that wants it, as well. Don't need anymore jobs!
That said if I can help you with the mold don't hesitate to reach out. I've got some flexible materials I can work with to do a relief of the the sling perhaps but I haven't had a ton of luck in the past with TPU getting detail right during print. If I could get that process down I'd like to start collecting scans of bash toys to have a "just in case" way of making replacements for friends, though.
Like you said might be easier to use a pour method over an existing sling set to make some molds from.
Best of luck!
yeah they def need to figure out something more flexible to make these sling plastics out of. can't really put a protector on it.
Quoted from ccbiggsoo7:yeah they def need to figure out something more flexible to make these sling plastics out of. can't really put a protector on it
Yes! This a perfect time to make one out of something softer and unbreakable. You use LED's now so you don't have to worry about the heat....
Progress update so far on the 3D print approach...
Going to have to get some translucent materials in, hopefully this weekend or early next week.
I got into pinball 20+ years ago, when my wife decided that she was tired of bowling and wanted to play some pinball in the arcade of the student union. Scared Stiff was the beast that got our quarters, and I was hooked. Took a small hit on my GPA.
Fast forward to last night. I've had other games, but the grail pin had evaded me. I was busy building one from scratch when this one showed up on the radar. Now, I have most of a SS, and a full game. The BSD was just icing on the cake.
So, while I've been floating around here forever, I'm officially in the club now! I'll post some more pics once I get my projects out of the way and get her set up.
Quoted from Edster:I don't think it was an aftermarket since i don't recall ever seeing one before. I bought it way way back and never used it. I was afraid it would get wrecked.

Shooter from my SS I picked up about 15 yrs ago
A4A7B772-DCA4-40C2-A9EF-DA51A515C330 (resized).jpegHello Stiffers! FINALLY in the club! Picked this one up over the weekend from a local pinsider and couldn’t be more happy. He had it in his collection for the last 10 years getting minimal play. Pretty great condition overall I think. No mods other than some LEDs. Cleaned her up and it plays great other than the coffin kicker sometimes takes a few tries to get coffin multiball going. All the mechs could probably use a good cleaning and some new rubbers would do wonders. Psyched!! Need to save for mods now....I’m sure I’ll have questions. Rock on!

That’s awesome. I have a white and green painted eye on my SS, and a floating eye in liquid that has an LED inside on my EHoH. Pretty cool multicolor effects with each plunge.

Is there a amendment history available to the software?
I remember many years ago there was a rom history list available to
all of Williams/Bally games... Over the years the deferent Copyright holders
have deleted and simplified the list. I know sometimes it is routine priority changes
or coinage changes.
I wanted to match the painted boney flipper bats so I bought the painted boney return lanes and now I want to match the rest of the boney beast pieces. What is the best way to get the colored look on all the backbone pieces?
Quoted from vec-tor:Is there a amendment history available to the software?
I found this: http://www.actionpinball.com/tech/stiff.txt
Looks like upgrading from 1.2 to 1.5 includes a lot of fixes and improvements.
Quoted from waveman:Looks like upgrading from 1.2 to 1.5 includes a lot of fixes and improvements.
Right. Is it just a ROM swap?
Quoted from ThatOneDude:Right. Is it just a ROM swap?
Yes - I believe it's just swapping the ROM chip.
