Where does this clear plastic piece go? Found it on the orbit between the Dead Heads and the Laboratory

Right here, to the right of the pop closest to the deadhead stack.

Thanks! I wonder what the function of this piece is?

Hi again. The Tilt Sideblades and Bat Ramp are gone. Just Magnetic Bat Speaker Thingys and original SS DMD left. I may have an original Manual...

damn, late again!

It's to help any stray balls to not get stuck up there. Yes, seems odd to have a ball up there, but I've had a few high energy ramp shots that had the ball land on top of blue plastic near the pops. Rare, but can happen.

I opened up my Scared Stiff Manual and discovered that it had three autographs. It’s easy to read Greg Freres’s signature but I can’t tell who the other two are. Can anyone recognize them?

I'm guessing here, but it looks a bit like the signature on the right hand side might be Roger Sharpe. I don't recognize the bottom signature.

Dont need this TV version or these Boney beast eyes, but the little black cat is intriguing...

The bottom signature includes "stay stiff" so maybe it is Nobel Prize-winning biochemist Robert Furchgot, the inventor of Viagra.

FYI I'm selling some cool blueprints on ebay including the coffin, spider & dead heads if anyone is interested.

I have others so if you are looking for others let me know. Like a rib detail from the bony beast ramp.

#3425 4 years ago

Joined the club officially this week with a very nice example I received in a trade. Very excited to finally have one, as I've been looking for several months. The playfield is in very nice shape, with Cliffys already installed and no visible wear. The T in front of the trunk just barely shows anything. Added some mylar in the hot spots and cleaned her up. Ordered some new boogie men for the slings and installed blades and soon a color DMD. Such a fun, unique pin! I've gotten all six modes and started climbing the Stiff-O-Meter a few times. The shots feel great to make, with smooth, innovative ramps. I can see why this one is so popular, especially these days!

Yes he can. I got a spare set of boney beast ribs if you want so your game keeps running. Let them go cheap

Paint them yourself. Bone is super easy to paint. It is a dry brush technique. There are YouTube videos on how to do it.

It's actually a color washing technique.

Paint the flipper with a watered down black/grey color, then lightly wipe off the excess leaving the paint in the detail areas.

I'm actually looking to get glow-in-the-dark paint done (if it's not too shinny) with a gray wash added

Thanks

Probably some previous owner’s inventory system. It was part of a fleet or something. I got an Haunted House from a movie studio and it has a prop department tag on it with a number. Same type of thing.

Has anybody tried the Comet brand "retro" SMD LEDs in SS without LED OCD boards?
I'm on a very limited budget these days and am having a bit of sticker shock after finding the LED and GI (why more expensive than the LED?) add up to $290 before tax (9.25% assuming there is tax) and shipping.

Typically my game is at home with very few plays (like 10 a month).

It's at a very nice location for coin play right now, but it was routed before I got it and I see no heat damage from the old bulbs (I think there might be a little lifting under the mylar at the inserts just infront of the flippers, but I don't know if that's due to heat or what).

So I'm thinking of just sticking with incandescent bulbs...maybe I'll be more enthusiastic about OCD boards and LEDs tomorrow, but between SS and LOTR my budget for non-life-essentials this rest of the year would be wiped out (I haven't even thought about Xmas yet).

I have games that needed the LED OCD board. In my opinion, SS isn't one of them. Comet LEDs are the way to go but not the "retro" ones (not enough light). I would go with 2SMD bulbs in sunlight for your GI and then color match your inserts. Do the ghost busters ones for your inserts. It will look great. The only down side is you will loose the "dimming effect" by not having the LED OCD board.

I found this signature in my SS cabinet while cleaning it. Does anyone recognize it? Maybe it’s nobody associated with the pin design. It could be a prior owner.

#3444 4 years ago

Well it does look like a signature, not just somebody trying to get ink to flow to the tip of a ballpoint pen.

There used to be a jackass who would "autograph" the outside cabinet of his pins. It was a rude surprise if you bought one and it was shipped to you...

#3445 4 years ago

I just picked up a Scared Stiff and did a little research on it. It seems to have some of the features of a sample, including glow bones and the sample playfield (with the different face on the stiff-o-meter, "saved by the spell", etc.) It doesn't have the unscratched cabinet or boogie men extensions. Any idea how many of the samples are out there and why this one might have only been a partial sample?

Thanks!

Looking for a Topper for my SS ?
Any suggestions

#3448 4 years ago

I love toppers

Here is my DIY Scared Stiff topper: At the front a skulltower with red LED eyes, at the back a big red illuminated crate decal on a MDF wooden plate and on the bottom of the skulls 2 red LED flashers for an awesome light effect.

cheers
Chris

Some of the playfield differences on my sample version. Different face on number three, 'saved by the spell' on the outline insert (referring to the removed kickback) and green electrifying text.
