I've got a spare coffin weldment that I'm looking to trade for other SS parts. I'd consider selling it, but I'm in need of various bits and pieces. If you need one, let me know. I'm looking for lots of the various playfield pieces, so if you have some left over from a restoration or something, I'd also be willing to buy.

I think they are and my game has them. There is a separate value slot for SS with Glow Kit in the Mr. Pinball Price Guide.

I have them on mine, but it doesn't add much if anything at all. The only time you'll actually see them glow is if the game is turned off and the room is dark. You wont be able to see any glow during gameplay. That's my 2 cents.

#3205 5 years ago

Anyone care to provide update info on the Boney Beast Eye mod? Just wondering how they're holding up and still performing as well. Thanks!

Thats kinda what i was thinking but thought maybe they'd react with pinstadiums

Picking a SS up next week excellent stock version. What's the best mods to get? It needs leds still

#3214 5 years ago

Color DMD, Pinball Prosound speaker upgrade or a Polk Audio psw10 subwoofer. The slimy game blades look awesom. Dancing boogiemen mod is a must also. The Skull topper is pretty inexpensive and easy to build.

Just got a beautiful SS--when the left orbit is lit "Monster's Lab" the ball is dropping into "Return of the Dead Heads." I presume the ball should travel all the way across into the Monster's Lab, correct? Any advice how to remedy?

#3217 5 years ago

My SS is being restored, but if I remember correctly, there is a gate that opens to let the ball get to the Lab. Go to the solenoid test and check that it is properly opening the gate. Even if the solenoid is working be sure that the gate opens enough and that the spring and linkage is properly aligned.

Man Ted! That thing looks like it should draw flies!

#3220 5 years ago

Yeah, it's pretty cool. I had the Eyeball made and bought a new rod. I drilled a hole and glued it in. I pulled it and it came off. After that I was given a SS shooter and used the gift. If someone wants to play with this one...$50 shipped Priority Mail i the USA!

How necessary is an LED OCD board in this thing

#3222 5 years ago
Quoted from Robertstone0407:

How necessary is an LED OCD board in this thing

It depends on what you like for your GI. WPC games typically will strobe or black out the GI for certain modes or achievements. The OCD board may interfere with that. I like the strobing of the GI on games like SS, MB, CV and CP. That strobing of the GI can be intensified by adding spotlights (tied to the GI) above the slings aimed at the PF. Dark games like MB can really be cool during MOSH Pit when the strobing of the GI happens. I didn't utilize the spots on my SS because I like SS somewhat dark. So to answer your question: Not as necessary as the black out mod! IMHO

I bugged PPS a few months back about no availability of the back box monster and tv plastics, and guess what, he had them made!
so finally my SS got a monster plastic plus i got a spare, they are real thin so have to be careful with them. old ones were real brittle.
in stock at PPS

We have finally made our 3rd generation lighted speaker panels. Here is our prototype for Scarred Stiff, we will have these available for sale in a month at the Texas show. This is picutred with stock speakers from the game.

It is pictured in a No Good Gofers, because I don't have a Scarred Stiff, but they use the same sized WPC95 speaker panel.

Just got a scared stiff, looking to update to LED, Speakers, OCD board, color dmd, and a couple of mods.

Starting with the LEDs, What is more important LEDOCD board or the GIOCD? I’m thinking GO because of the dimming that happens during gameplay.
TIA

#3228 5 years ago

WPC's handle LED's better than sterns, imo, so i never felt like i needed a daughterboard in them.

Yeah I recently tried to find them also, but no one seems to have the blue ones. If you happen to find a supplier, please let us know.

#3233 5 years ago

As far as I can tell after talking to vendors like Marco, there is no one making this shade of cap. I thought about trying my hand at it if I am not happy with my transparent lighted tests. I haven't found any thermo-form options that look right, so I suspect that an injection mold is likely the route. If someone does have a source, please share.

#3234 5 years ago

All right guys, I finally got my Scared Stiff today! I noticed that once the coffin opens for MB, it stays open, and the rod that kicks the door open doesn't retract when turned off, leading me to believe it's mechanical, and I am willing to bet that coil sleeve has NEVER been changed.

This looks like a pretty thorough job to get to that sleeve. Are there any writeups anywhere on how to disassemble this area?

#3235 5 years ago

Also, how are the frogs held in? I have some hexnuts with - no joke - some bolts that were sawed in half to hold the nuts in place. I anticipate the frog's rods underneath the PF are held in place with hexnuts that are locked down by means of 10-32 x 1/4" set screws?

#3236 5 years ago
Quoted from NPO:

Also, how are the frogs held in? I have some hexnuts with - no joke - some bolts that were sawed in half to hold the nuts in place. I would anticipate the rela way to do it is with alan wrench bolts that are threaded with the female hold in the body of the bolt (so basically a headless allen wrench bolt).

I'm sure folks more knowledgeable than me will chime in, but if you are speaking of the frogs themselves, they are just connected to a small straight rod (similar in diameter to a clothes hanger) which passes through the hole in the metal pop target bracket and thru the playfield a small spacer between the frog and the top of the pop target bracket is what sends the leaping. If you are talking about what holds the pop target bracket in place, it is two threaded machine screws (I'm guessing 8-32 by 2 inch) which pass thru plastic posts on top of the playfield and into a T-nut (going from memory here) under the playfield.

Quoted from robertmee:

Looks like you got those leapers under control. If you like it when the leapers smack the glass, you can remove the nut, that ring at the end of the rod will hold the leapers in place when you are working on the machine with the glass off. Apologies for my long winded previous post answer, I misunderstood your original post.

Well, I went ahead and made my own Skull Pile Mod. I took my time doing this as the online instructions were a lil' tricky to get the hang of at first. All in all, this makes the game REALLY pop.

The second video gives a bit more detail on the background and how to do it yourself. I did this on a whim, and really didn't expect to go this deeply into it, but I figured what the heck - might as well. If you want more detail on how to do it yourself, let me know!

I was able to go about 5 days, a record for me in terms of waiting, before I ordered a ColorDMD tonight. Couldn't go any longer. This monocolor DMD has to go....!

#3242 5 years ago

#3243 5 years ago

Here is one for ya to try. Get Double Trouble on the spider wheel, Now lock a ball, Then hit the Skill Shot. The Game will sound the noise that you get when you hit Secret Passage and will give you a Super Skill Shot! Pretty cool! I did this the other night for the first time.
