I picked up this pin about a week ago off CL. When I got there the player unit would not stop spinning and it wouldn't go into game play. I opened the back of the head which of course I had to pry open because the keys are long gone. The PU fell straight on its side. The hook that holds it in its upright position was broken off. The owner at some point had painted the cabinet with red paint, airbrushed their names all over it along with some trees and other stuff, replaced the PF glass with plexiglass, the lock bar was dented to crap, the entire thing was filthy inside and out, the PF had some wear through the paint in a few places, one of the spinners was missing and the one that is there was painted red (supposed to be checkered flag), all the rubber was dry rotted and some even broken, coin door and legs are rusty, and the body plywood has many nicks and is cracked in at least one place. I offered half the asking price. At first I was denied so I asked if they changed their minds to give me a call back. A week later and it was mine.

After getting it home I used a cotter pin to hold the PU in place. I turned the pin on and it went into game play. However it would go from player one to player four or another player and all sorts of things. Thanks to help on this forum I was told I needed to clean any old grease off the PU parts. I was also told to clean the contact points in the PU and that should free up the PU enough to make it act properly. I did all of that and it now works perfectly. All of the mechanics of the game work well.

Other issues left: many bulbs are out and many sockets not working (probably just need to be cleaned), the power cord is cracked and even naked in lots of places, flippers are weak and noisy so will get rebuild, the back glass has a very small amount of flaking.

Over the next few weeks I'm going to be working on the cosmetics to bring this thing to its rightful glory. Yesterday I replaced the power cord with a new one I went with a 3 wire grounded cord. I've started cleaning the light sockets and a gotten a few working. I've ordered a ring kit, novus polish and some other things. I'll be posting pics as I go for posterity.

Coin door was a little rough.

After lots of polishing with and buffing wheel and a microfiber towel with chrome polish. It came out pretty good. There was some spots where rust has pitted into the metal. Other than that what a bling.

Why on earth would you do that? Drill out the lock!

As far as the cabinet paint job... by home-done standards, that one is really pretty good. You may not like what they did to it, but someone really put some love into painting that. The ones I usually see have been gone over with a sand filled roller and whatever leftover paint they could find laying around.

That cabinet is awesome. You're keeping it that way, right?

The lock isn't drilled out. It wasn't locked to begin with and there are no keys. I removed the nut on the back to get the lock off to do the polishing. However I'll drill one in a heartbeat seeing replacement locks are dirt cheap.

I agree about the cabinet art. It is totally awesome.

Sweet.

Still going to paint it. Attempting to put her back to original.

Finally got the legs polished. It took a while since I burned out my die grinder on the first one. Now I'm using my bench grinder with 8 inch buffing wheels. Looks like its turning out pretty good.

Great,job so far

All four legs polished up finally. Putting on new flippers. The originals are not with the machine and were checkered flags so I ordered generic white ones. I've taped them off and used an exacto knife to cut out the squares. Painting the black squares tonight. I'll hit them up with some clear and polish them off next week.

Finally got around to putting the clear on the spinners. Also had to drill out the mounting holes for the spinners as the new ones wires were larger gauge than the originals. Hopefully next week I'll be onto the back box and cabinet repair and painting.
