Hey Everyone,
This is my first post, so be kind

I just got my first pinball delivered, Indiana Jones 2008.
Been having a blast on for the last 4 days.

I want to update the S.A.M. software as it was delivered with German language,
I have been trying to find info about the USB sticks for updates,
They have to be S.A.M. compatible, aparently.

So my Question is, Can I use any USB stick??

Appreciate any help
Cheers
Steve

You may be able to change the language thru your menu settings on the inside door controls on that machine - not sure about the SAM

Welcome to the forum We'll all try to help as much as possible.

First read this service bulletin. It will answer alot of your questions.

http://www.sternpinball.com/SB/ServiceBulletin_164.html

It looks like the machine wants an older smaller USB memory stick (128MB or less). It wouldn't surprise me though if a newer one would work just fine since this was written in 2006.

You will also need the Boot Flash Eprom which can be downloaded here:

http://www.sternpinball.com/GAME_bootFLASH.html

If you don't have another machine to copy you can download the firmware here:

http://sternpinball.com/USB_IJ.html

If you don't have access to a eprom burner I can burn it and send it to you. If you live in Europe then Robin (Our wonderful Pinside creator/owner) could probably do it for you quicker. It also appears they will sell you a USB stick with whatever game code you want already stored on it.

Let us know how you do. Like fusion301 said you can most likely change the language in the settings menu of the machine. That may only affect the text though and not the firmware sounds. For that you may need to copy/load an english machines code using the method you are thinking about and mentioned in the bulletin. All of these links are provided by Stern and freely available without worrying about copyright infringement.

I have a Stern Spiderman in storage so looking up this information also helped me. When I get a chance I will make a backup copy of it myself now.

Thanks for the replies,
I will ask Stern about the USB stick and updated english files.

Brokedad, The links are Awesome, Thanks.
I will read through everything, then make a choice of which is the best direction to proceed.

I don't have an eprom burner, but will get in touch with Robin, as I am in Switzerland.
Will drop him a pm after christmas,
don't want to mess with the pinball and not have it working over christmas and the new year.

I also went through all of the language options, on the CPU/Sound board, and also all the options in the menu's. All set to english, but words like "Extra Ball" are in German.

When I turn the pinball "on" I have Indiana V1.16v, USA, Deusch
Think that the installed it when the machine arrived.

Anyway, off to play, I just got 169M, grand master highest score,
I am sure you all would kill my score on this, having a blast

Appreciate your replies.

Enjoy and I'm sure the folks at Stern will be just as helpful to you as they were to me when I email them with any support question. You never know .. Gary himself sometimes responds.

I am not an expert, by any means!, but when I updated my Spiderman to the new v. 2.4 or whatever last week, I just had an old 1GB USB stick we found on the ski slope that still worked OK and used that. It worked! You can get the file from Stern's website. I did actually back-up the existing software before I upgraded, tho, just in case. The manual suggested to do that. But so far so good. (Probably no one will even read this post for weeks anyway). -Good luck!

Thanks Sean,

I sent an email to Stern, 1 hr later I got a reply from Patrick,
He said I could use my 1Gb USB stick no worries,

So I did the change to English, plus updated to the latest version,

I had 1.16, the new one is 2.1

Appreciate all the replies,

Cheers Steve
