Nothing like buying a brand new game to just take it apart. I like to make replacement ramps and wireforms to get plastics out of my games. I enjoy the process and I am always open to selling them as a mod if there is enough interest. I use stainless steel plates and stainless steel rods that are shaped and tig welded by hand. I see the potential to replace the huge plastic ramp assembly on Rush. I have created a different style of ramps for my machines. The bottom is stainless steel plate and the rest is stainless rods. Here are a few pictures of that style of ramp being developed on Star Wars and Mandalorian. For this first attempt on Rush I sketched out sheet music lines with notes. The drawing is what the look will be from over head. The 5 bar lines and notes will be part of the upper rails. Its just a sketch and the metal rails will be spaced and more uniform, but hopefully you can see what I see in my head. Feel free to follow another one of my artistic dementia projects and if it looks like a mod that interests you in the end pm me to be put on the possibly interested list.

You can see my other projects on Loganpinball.com.

Made first cut on stainless plate. Trying rings, but I will see where this ends up.. i already like the steel ramp over plastic. D0A36C72-CF27-48E6-A4E9-F0C16EBDEEBB (resized).jpegD0A36C72-CF27-48E6-A4E9-F0C16EBDEEBB (resized).jpeg

Thanks.

Stopping for tonight. No concept of time when I am welding. I just layed left wireform and ramp switch on to new ramp so you can see where I am headed.

Almost done with the new ramp… nothing bolted down, I keep checking the forms for issues. This is the proto ramp. I will sell this mod very soon..

Awesome work, as mentioned above, I’d be interested as well.

90% done! Right wireform is almost done. I will need to fill a few orders of Mando and Star Wars prior to Rush. I also need to build 2 or 3 sets of these to get labor costs figured out. I charge $50 an hour plus materials. I will post a price when I get to that point and I have a list going. Your not locked on anything, I can get to you on the list and you can pass if you wish to do so. I also want to play test the hell out of this set first to make improvements as needed.

Thanks! I appreciate that alot. I enjoy creating things with metal and doing artistic stuff in the process. Sometimes I go way too deep. I do not understand why Stern went plastic ramp on it. I decided to cut the top rings off the right wireform to be like the left side. It looks better. I was going to add to the top of the wireform like the ramp, but I think that would be too much. I am very biased, but plastic ramps look cheap. Some things are not screwed down or in place. I just wanted to see the look. I am busy tomorrow with other wireforms, but I will try to get back on this if I can.

The last set looks great. I agree that matching the L/R lower ramps improves things. I also agree with you in much preferring metal ramps.

No hurries, and happy to help test these for you if needed.

Version 2 in progress. I had a few hang ups to wireform rail on right. I am extending the ramp to solve that and this one I am making this one a all plate ramp.

I got a spot at Pintastic and will be there all day Friday only. If your going stop by and see the Rush. Not sure if I am bringing gnr with my snake mod or Mandalorian with all the ramp mods yet? Very sad when you look at gnr se owners and its only 58.

Time stamping for myself: 3:42
Almost there. Alot of work to make it this way, but the ball travel and guide mimics plastics.

10:05
Completed ramp.
11:20
Installed optos, switches and mounts..
Ooofa!

I think I found a place to use my 20 year old Canadian change. Its been a long time since I have been to the mother land of Saint Jerome where I was born.

I just finished the figure it out version today. I had to adjust the back plate by cutting out and replacing a curve section for that diverter arm wall clearance. I can and will do better on the next one now that I have it shaped to proper size.

Heres a video of both ramps and diverter in action. Very fast ramps!

looking good.

if you get to laser cutting the pieces, you could make them like stern made the metallica ramps with slots and tabs. that might make assembly a lot easier on you as well as cleaning up the look.

I agree. I just am not there yet..I have a plasma cutting table, but its a bear to program. So, I cut notches by hand. Then bent them under and welded below. It does improve it overall. Working on this one for Pintastic.

Minor tweaks and its ready. I added top panels just for the look. I did have to cut out a notch for ramp retaining screw on right side. Play testing now.

The cover on the left...just seems a little large and blocks seeing the ball. Not criticizing tho, just a general comment (personal taste too). Maybe weld some posts or nuts on the guide itself (Edit...looks like there's some there already?), then make the cover out of plastic to make it look more open? Or make both metal or plastic an option? Pick the one you want, screw it in place. Heck, people could even 3d print a cover to their liking.

Nice work!

#23 1 year ago

yes, I agree. I not sure why a cover would be needed on it.

There needs to be a turn point blocking wall on curve to keep ball from jumping off the rail. I am going for a specific look on my machine with this set. The blocking plate alone covers about 1/3 of it, without it the ball jumps out at the turn on hot shots. And I dont like plastic walls on metal ramps visually.

I see what you're stating, however to be honest, in my opinion the original plastic cover may look better than covering it up and blocking the view of the ball from the player's perspective

I might come back to this game again in the future, but there simply has not been enough interest to make a run of these. With Materials and labor it was looking to be $700 plus shipping. I have decided to trade it for a X-men pro as that is another machine that I want to make wireforms for. Thanks for following this mod. Rush is a good game, I just could not get into the music and that also got me wanting to move it along.

I will be trying to make another version of the new metal ramp soon. I also want to see if I can do anything with the dead end shot. I am leaving pinside as a business. I am just waiting on help to deactivate loganpinball currently. Too much negativity on my last 3 mods. I just dont need it in my head anymore. If you are interested in this ramp and wireform mod or the dead end attempt, please follow me on instagram @loganpinball. I post everything there good or bad.
Thanks for the support and following my designs since we started, my email is [email protected]. Please email me over there if you are interested.
