I did the exact same modification for mine about a month ago. Works 100%. Interestingly, if you look at the outside ball guide there's a straight ball-mark line on the rail up until it gets to about where the tip if the insert arrow is. Then you see the ball marks on the ball guide fan up towards the top of the rail. Slow balls probably stay down, but fast moving balls travel up and presumably over the switch, not activating it at all.

Yep. But as history shows, they tend to let things like this stick around. See xmen and rogue. Same issue.
Check out NinjaCamp’s v2 inner loop corrector, installed on mine, and has no issue registering shots.
The owners thread has discussed this for awhile, ball travels too fast and gets air, not hitting the switch well enough. There’s a few different fixes people have provided info on, NC’s v2 has been working great.
