I've got a Williams Flash pin. Came with all boards, all of which have little green stickers on them, that say OK LEM or something. That matters in a second.
I got this with a Harlem Globetrotters pin that also has the little green OK LEM stickers on them. Point being, looks like someone (LEM) went through both of these machines at some point and got them working with the boards currently installed.
I managed to get Globetrotters running again with the LEM approved boards that were in there but not Flash just yet. Here's the thing - Flash has a System 3 MPU in it but, by all accounts, it is a System 4 game. There are three non-original EPROMs that are nicely labeled as FLASH ROMs and the game *does* drop to audit when turned on. I've replaced the 5101 with a known good one, confirmed 5v getting to the MPU and installed a new off-board battery pack. I can go through all the audit settings, etc. but can't get it out of audit mode, however. So the game IS reading code and displays the proper number for FLASH (486).
So, if LEM put together a working Globetrotters and approved of all the boards, why would he throw the wrong MPU in Flash but still sign off on everything as working unless it was at some point?
My real question here: is it possible to run a System 4 game, in this case "Flash" on a System 3 MPU in anything more than audit mode or am I chasing a LEM-bred goose here?
My gut says that even audit wouldn't work with a 4 game on a 3 MPU but need Williams gurus to confirm or deny here!
Thanks!
