Quoted from epthegeek:This is great stuff. And with all the colordmd installs, a lot of people have spare DMDs to use
True, but probably much better to use an led dmd. A clock would cause some wicked image burn.

This is very neat, but 500 for the full clock is crazy. Even 109 euros (117 us) for the controller board is crazy expensive.
The large display is nice, but an idea would be to use a fuax speaker panel modeled off wpc or whatever you like. Have it play sounds to mark the hour, but it is a little late for that.
Quoted from kbliznick:Ordered parts for 2 kits, so I am in for 2 frames from whomever starts making them first.
Kris
Indypinhead is capable of building frames for these. We just need someone to get a full kit to him.
Quoted from audihere:I'm thinking ColorDMD.
Not sure how you expect that to work. I could use one of my smart dmds, but then you are talking 250 for that. That just gets you the ability to chose your color. Problem is then you have to hide the over-sized sections of the LCD screen.
Quoted from XXVII:This is an incredible idea, but I think using it as just a clock is pretty limited in the possibilities. If there were some input pins on the board, someone could hook in a Raspberry Pi/Arduino/etc. and write some code to do things like scroll RSS feed news items between animations. Imagine getting the latest pinball news or Pinside forums threads between those animations, or making your own RSS feed that you update from your computer/phone to show off high scores on all your games.
Now that is a pretty sweet idea. Would be really cool to display tournament rankings.
Quoted from lurch:That was just the front. Ive been plaving around with their materials selection and have managed to get the price down. I guess if we did a bulk order, we should be able to get the price down to $40 + shipping for the acrylic (including $10 each for whoever wants to distrubute these things). I just need to look at the prices on the screws and spacers now......
You might be better off getting people to order together and then picking up at a show. Otherwise someone is going to a lot of work reshipping everything.
Quoted from Aurich:I just want it to display the time with some animations.
If there was a way to upload our own, or edit it that would rule, but beyond that I expect nothing.
Pretty much this although being able to cue sounds would be interesting albeit unnecessary. Main thing would be to rip and upload animations you want.
Quoted from Syco54645:Very true. Makes it hard for me to bite, especially when all of the features are not complete.
Thought the same thing. Currently without frame and I am at 210. Probably will be near 300 before this is over. On the other hand it is unique and the time to buy something is when its available. If this guy gets shutdown for violating IP due to the animations I will already have the clock in hand.
Quoted from Limpan:When all orders on waiting line are sent out the aim is to send new orders out the day after they are placed, so the waiting should not be as long as this time.
No worries, this is a niche product and as such delays are part of getting it. Besides, the frame kits won't be in for a month at least so after testing this will be sitting in a closet for a bit.
Quoted from Eddie:OK Im not up on my computer use savvy if ever I had any.
How do you get the animations form a machine in the first place?
Say I wanted animations not pre rendered in the chip?
Read the thread. You can't. The animations that are available are predetermined.
Does anyone in the us have the capability of burning the chip? Pretty sure my GQ-USB 4x is not able to.
Anyone had any trouble getting the HUB808 (The large led displays?) to do anything? My led is flashing every 4 seconds, but I do not get anything on either display no matter how i plug the ribbon cable in.
Quoted from Aurich:Look at the instructions to check my memroy, but I think you unplug the power, wait 15 seconds to make sure it's done, and then hold in button 4/D when you turn it back on. That will force it to cycle through different styles of outputs.
I couldn't get anything but a single vertical line on my Stern display until I did that, now it's working perfectly.
One of the cables I got for power must be broken inside. Got one of the displays up by swapping it. Thanks tho!
Quoted from PinBackpacker:I'm trying to install the image with the HDD Raw Copy tool. It's acting as if the SD card that came with the Run-DMD needs to be formatted first. Should I be formating it first?
I did not. It formated the card when I ran the copy tool.
Has anyone posted how the jumpers work? I am using the green/red display, but was just curious.
Per the manual:
On your Run-DMD board there may be a set of 4 jumpers marked “DMD COLOR”.
These jumpers should normally never be moved, but can used to adjust the Run-DMD to work with
green HUB08 DMDs.Your board may also have “ICSP”, “TTL RS-232” or ”I/O” connections, these are
not in use.
Quoted from pkiefert:Just an FYI, the ribbon cables that come with the panels from AliExpress suck. one of mine was good, one was bad. I think I read somewhere someone else had this issue too.
if you are having trouble getting your displays to work and the board looks like it's running (ie: the LED flashing) then swap your cables.
At first mine had nothing on the displays, then I swapped the cables and 1 of the displays started working. Tested the Other display so now i'm just going to make my own cables for it.
Paul
That was me!
Quoted from ddebuss:Anyone have opinions on whether to get the single or dual-color displays? The cost delta is pretty small so I was thinking of just getting the dual color displays but it's not clear if there are disadvantages that go with them... I get it power and they are slightly more expensive. Anything else?
Nope, just more expensive and more power usage. You could set it to red or green only if you don't like orange.
Quoted from ddebuss:Just curious. That's quite a few animations. I guess I'm in. Order placed...
It really is pretty awesome. Took me 2 months to get all the parts and that was with being in the bulk frame order. Despite the high cost I have 0 regrets. Even if they never update it again I am more than happy with it.
Quoted from thunderstorm:I really suck at building things. Would someone be interested in building one for me? More then happy to pay you for your time. I think it would be awesome in my gameroom.
Im in Canada.
Pm me with details/price.
Thanks
Eric
curious what someone would charge. I had someone ask if I would sell mine, but couldn't justify the time/effort.
If someone is looking for an assembled clock I would sell mine for 400 plus shipping. I used the dual color displays so it can be amber.
Is anyone else having problems flashing to the latest firmware? It loosk like it is too big for the 2GB sd card.
Quoted from jardine:Anyone have one of these for sale? Complete and up to date with animations and assembled that would ship to Australia? PM me please.
I have one I'd let go, but the shipping would be eye watering.
Quoted from Damonator:White RunDMD board
AliExpress panels (from RunDMD faq page)
Power supply from Amazon
One M3 screw to affix RunDMD to panel
Matte Black frame from AmericanFrame. The frame style is C21 and AmericanFrame cuts the acrylic for you. (See pic for dimensions) I think total cost for all components was about $250.
I ordered the frame about 3/16 of an inch larger on both dimensions so the outer row of dots wouldn’t be obscured. The tensioners sent with the frame hold the panels in place just fine even with the gap.
How did you come to 250?
Its 185 for me to get the run dmd white.
55 for the frame.
44 for the HUB75.
Still need the power adapter.
