    Quoted from Rager170:

Is there a way to have this run off batteries or no?

While you could maybe get the controller board to run on battery power, the display itself cannot. If you use an older plasma display you need high voltage. If you use a more modern LED display you need high amp 12v power.

    Quoted from ddebuss:

Running off batteries is possible but not practical. A decent sized high-output battery bank could probably run for a few hours if you set the brightness to low. You've got me curious now. I may give it a try to see what I find assuming I have the right components to make it work.

You could do it off a high amperage 2s (7.4v) Li-Po battery pack. You'd need a voltage regulator and a cut-off circuit. Lipos puff up, catch fire, and/or explode when you get the voltage too low. You need a specialized charger for them.

For 100$ you could get a li-po that will power your clock for a few hours. But then pull the battery to charge it.. Basically every few hours of run time. Not practical but possible.

I leave mine on all the time.

That display looks familiar I think. Hope you are enjoying it.

    Yep

    you should check out PI2DMD

Looks nice but too much video game animations lol? If you’re gonna have just video game animations why bother with a DMD... just get a LCD screen.

Mine is and has been on 24/7 since I built it several years ago.

    24/7 for me.

    Quoted from DanT:

I tried updating my clock with the B237.img and it would not boot. I was able to return to the B134 image with no problems.
Does the latest B237 image only work with certain run-dmd board revisions? How many animations are included in B237? I notice the uncompressed image file is about 4x larger than the B134 image. B134 has 2302 animations when I browse it through the run-dmd board menu.

I have the same issue. I'm guessing my board is too old? I know my FW is 3.55 (Run-DMD Type C)

My run-dmd clock has remained on/plugged in since I have had it (at least 3 years). I did get corruption on it once (slow loading or corrupt animations) and let it go for almost a year anyway as it was 1-2 animations. However at one point it was getting issues with many animations so I just flashed a new card and all issues went away. BTW on mine as well the B237 does not work at all. Just the B134 for me I guess.

    Quoted from cookpins:

Can I use a DMD from a WPC game (Congo)? I thought I read somewhere that it had to be from a Stern era game.
Edit: The Boston controller listing states it needs to be from Stern and can't be from 90s machines, damn.

The problem is the voltages. Modern LED DMDs run on 12V. Plasma DMDs run on hundreds of volts. You would need another power supply which would end up being larger than your DMD clock setup - and more dangerous due to the high voltages.

    Quoted from ddebuss:

The are actually 5v. You'll probably blow it up with 12v.

Oops. I was confusing things with ColorDMD which does suck some 12V from the system.
