Just ordered a frame kit! Also ordered a MK2 board from Run-DMD's website limpan
Does anyone know approx how long it will take to make the trip to the States?

Usually it takes around 5-6 working days to a US address, but right now because of the pandemic it could take a week or two more depending on where it's sent and the current situation.

Just received notice that mine has shipped (within just a few hours of me ordering it). Thanks for the great service!

Awesome! Yeah, I wasn't sure with the pandemic if thing were extremely delayed from Sweden or not. I ordered a thing from the UK and it took like 2 months to get here. Funny enough, it was actually stuck in Chicago for a good portion of that time. Hope it doesn't happen for this! I'm excited.

Chicago seems to be a black hole. I lost two Run-DMD shipments there before the summer which both had Chicago as their latest registered tracking. Hopefully they get routed to a place with less problems now. A large portion of the parcels are usually sent with regular passenger traffic, so I guess regular airlines not flying as much as they used to is a contributing factor to the delays we see. Let's hope it reaches you faster than the UK parcel

Torbjörn has worked hard lately and together with firmware 3.60 that was released two days ago he just released the Run-DMD Control Center v.0.10 software which is available to download over at https://run-dmd.com

Here's a little information about the application:

Run-DMD Control Center” (v0.10) is the first release of a Windows based software for modifying or creating SD-card images for the Run-DMD. In this first version basic DMD/clock configurations are available along with the possibility to import images for use as clock backgrounds. To be able to use the ”background” feature, the Run-DMD must be running firmware v3.60 or later. (Any Run-DMD (regardless of board version) can be upgraded to v3.60 using a ”PICkit 3” from Microchip.)

Run-DMD Control Center can read BMP, JPEG och PNG files and will resize them if needed.
For best results use images with a resolution of 128x32 pixels. Use images with high contrasts!

We hope to have additional features available in Run-DMD Control Center soon.

More information and download link available here: https://run-dmd.com/run-dmd-control-center-v-0-10/

Sounds great, I hope future plans will allow folks to add/delete game animations as well?

    #1357 14 days ago

For those wondering the same thing I was... can I update my firmware... from the site...

Can I upgrade the Run-DMD firmware myself?

Yes, if you have a PICKIT3 tool you can update the dsPIC33EP-type MCU on the Run-DMD.

Run-DMD boards RevA/B/F2/F3 has a “ICSP” connector that you can connect the PICKIT3 to. If you have another Run-DMD board revision you need to remove the MCU and place it in a separate dsPIC33 ICSP socket for upgrading, this socket is available in the run-dmd.com shop.

The firmware hex-files are available for download at run-dmd.com, please note the board revision and MCU type since they use different firmware hex-files!

If you have questions regarding how to use PICKIT3, please refer to the microchip.com website.

The process of creating images for the Run-DMD is tricky, and includes a few different self developed tools afaik. Hopefully it will be possible in the future, but no news regarding that right now. You can show/hide individual animations or per game using the menus right now, but it would be cool if that would be able to do with the Run-DMD Control Center as well.

Run-DMD Control Center v.0.20 has been released with some new features. Run-DMD Control Center works great with earlier firmware versions as well, but the background settings will be ignored if you have a firmware lower than v3.60.

Just finished assembling my Stern DMD version, and it came out great. I ended up repositioning the control board until I finally got where it aligned correctly with the menu.

I also used the red lens behind the front smoke acrylic since I could see through it some without.

Finally, there is a flashing red LED on the controller that was driving me crazy. After searching, however, there is a setting in the menu to disable it.

Love Love Love this! Would be cool to have the flipper occasionally flip and the pop bumpers flash or even use real pops and have them pop... Gotta thing through how to do that...

Wife is asking for Xmas gift ideas and I've always wanted to put one of these together.

Limpan - any timeframe on when more MK2 kits will be in stock?

Alternatively - I'm not against the Edge or Edge white, but need handholding on sourcing the appropriate displays.
At the same time, I have no idea what the difference between HUB08 and HUB75 is. Am I right in that the HUB75 are RGB and can that you can select different colors? If that's the case and you want to be able to change colors - is there any reason to go with HUB08 over HUB75?

Last but not least - anyone with experience ordering from aliexpress able to post links to HUB75 and or HUB08 panels that would work?
Edit: or Amazon? I'm sure it's all coming from China regardless, but I do like Amazon's return policies should something go wrong.

Edit again - I think all my non-MK2 questions became moot. Just got offered a free Stern DMD from a friend that did a Color DMD swap.

The link says they are Yellow, but your .gif above looks white?

Also, which RunDMD board do I need for the HUB12 panels? I'm considering building one of these things.

It should be yellow. Probably the lamp in the gif making it look whiter. See earlier post with the Pinside background where it's a bit more yellow looking. You can either go with the Run-DMD Edge or the Run-DMD White (HUB12 interface board supports both).
