I recently picked up a Data East Royal Rumble. The game does have some issues that need to be sorted out. First off, the DMD keeps flashing with the message "Display Version." The game will go into attract mode, and I can start a game and play it. Problem is, the display won't stop flashing this message. Any ideas?

Also, I'm having flipper issues, specifically the bottom and top right flippers. The left flippers work fine. When I push the right flipper button, the bottom right flipper will sometimes go up and down without a problem. Other times, the flipper will get stuck in the up position. Now, the other right flipper on the upper playfield doesn't budge at all. It doesn't move when I push the flipper button, and it takes one heck of a time to move it at all. I've read somewhere about testing to see if the problem is electrical or mechanical. Whenever the bottom flipper is stuck up, it will go back down when I turn the machine off. The right flipper on the upper playfield doesn't go back down when the machine is turned off. Do I have a problem on the flipper boards? If not, what else can you think of?

The DMD issue is likely that the display board is not getting the 5v it needs and the display software is constantly resetting. You probably need to rebuild the power supply. I would start by testing your voltages at the power supply and then at the DMD board.

If the flipper doesn't go down when the game is powered off then you have a mechanical issue. Check the flipper mechanism and coil for anything loose...might have a loose coil stop or maybe something is angled or gummed up causing resistance in the coil sleeve...could just need a new sleeve. Sounds like your upper right could be sticking as well. Do a good physical inspection and try and move the flipper with the playfield up so you can see what's going on.

If your bottom flipper sticks up, but then goes down when you turn the game off, start with the cabinet switch...is the switch sticking closed when you press the flipper button?
