Bought a Card Whiz that is in a Jet Spin base cabinet! Got it set up and playing. Very fun machine!

On my Card Whiz the ball number and player units seem to work fine, but during games the ball 4 light is always on. On ball 1, both the 1 and 4 are on. Ball 2, both 2 and 4, etc. I’m guessing there is a switch for the ball 4 lamp that needs adjusting.

I solved it by cleaning the ball 4 switch stack in the head. Ran a business card through it a few times and the problem is gone.

Looks like some of the bonus lights for the card hands are becoming flakey. I need to get in there and take a look at the lamp sockets and any switch/relay contacts that might need cleaning.

I resolved the bonus lights for the card hands issue. The bonus light would not illuminate for the Jacks. Ended up that the switch stacks were loose and tightening them resolved it.

Next issue is that I get a relay or solenoid buzzing sound sometimes on player two when the right slingshot gets hit. I guess it has something to do with scoring 10 points, but only for player #2.

I didn’t realize they could break like that. I don’t have any spares, but maybe you can put a wanted ad in the market page if the PBR guys don’t have any. Pinball shows often have vendors selling spare parts and stepper units though.

I moved my Card Whiz to my daughters house and none of the 10 point switches are scoring. Should I investigate the Jones plugs and 10 point relay?

Returned my Card Whiz back home from my daughter’s basement. The scoring issue was that my son-in-law missed plugging in one of the Jones plugs. It’s a fun machine and I forgot how much I like the chimes and bonus countdown of the card hands after each ball.

The other evening I decided to replace the power cord on my Card Whiz. Pretty easy to do. My original power cord was missing the ground plug and had some cracked insulation. The new one should be fine for a couple decades now. I need to install new power cords on my El Dorado and Fireball next.

A final game of Card Whiz with my daughter before I sold it. Bye Card Whiz, you are a lot of fun.

Quoted from StoneyCreek:

But it went to a good home! We play it every night.

That's great Pat! I'm glad you are enjoying it. That machine was a good player for me. It has so many things to aim for and some different strategy. I'll own another one someday. I'm currently trying to get a broken Space Mission repaired for my daughter, son-in-law, and grandsons. So this one is keeping me busy.

Quoted from beadwindow:

anybody think this game is too easy? i have a beautiful example of one and it's not difficult to get 100k within a handful of plays.

I sold my Card Whiz in January for the same reason. It’s definitely a fun game, but I found it easy to roll. I wouldn’t mind owning it again if I found a better example to buy though. It has plenty of things to shoot at and is a great game for non-pinball people to play. The double bonus countdown is fun on the last ball.
