I'm trying to install a new Rottendog rectifier board in my Stern Stars. I have a question about the E7 and E8 connections.

There are two holes but there is only one wire for each. Do I need to jumper these small holes or just stick the wire in one of them and call it good. Thanks!

Should not have to jumper. If you have a multimeter should be able to do a quick continuity test between the two holes. Just up to you to choose a hole to solder in the wire. http://www.pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=File:Stern-ta100-16b-6.png

one wire...in one hole.

Both holes on #7 & #8 are the same connection.

I installed the new board and everything was working great for about 5 minutes while I was testing switches. I pulled the ball out of the shooter lane and let it drain. It was doing the bonus countdown and then the feature lights went off and the magic smoke came out of the backbox. The VR1 resister on my new rectifier board burned up.

Have you checked the rest of the machine, or was swapping in this new rectifier board your first step?

Prior to the swap everything else on the game was working except for the feature lights. The feature lights were not getting any voltage from the old rectifier board according to the test point on the board.

I am having the same problem with the varsistor. He said they had a bad batch.

Rottendog is going to call me tomorrow on what to do and I will let you know.

send it back

I really don't want to remove and send it back because installing it is really involved. I ordered a few new resisters from Marco and I'll see what happens.

Give Jim a call or email and tell him when and where you bought it.
I am having the same probs and he is going to send me a new board out.

Bballfan, have you fried the resister multiple times or just once?

I think the blue varsistor is the problem.
When I fired it up the varsistor immediately started to spark and the bridge went bad.

I talked to Rottendog. Sounds like there were some older boards shipped with a 50v resister instead of a 100v. He is going to send me a replacement resistor. That will be easier to swap than the whole board.

Rottendog sent me the correct varsistor and now it works great!
No more fireworks in the backbox when it is turned on.

I may have to try this board. I can't get my Stern to work with new Alltek boards and I'm thinking of just giving up and buying a rectifier board to see if that fixes it.

I was working on a transformer earlier this week, and the reason there's two holes is because some of the transformers doubled up the wire on two of those connections... so on some transformers, you have just 1 wire, and on some you have two wires, they just double it up and make it I guess capable of passing more amps through the two wires.
