My rollergames WILLIAMS lights (on the backboard between the speakers) don't work (and yes, I checked the bulbs). I think the transistor for Column 1 (lamp matrix) is bad so will replace it on the MPU board, but I want to make sure I am replacing it with the correct transistor. If I am reading the manual correctly it looks like it's a TIP42 transistor, but my knowledge of electronics is limited so was hoping someone can confirm this for me? Thanks.

Thanks all. I am going to investigate further.

So I finally got around to running the test following the instructions here, and the lamp doesn't light in test mode when I test 1J6-1 and 1J7-1. So if I am understanding things correctly, that means it is likely the transistor went bad. Is changing a transistor that difficult? My soldering skills to date have been under the playfield and not on the boards, and my soldering iron is a basic one temperature 25 watt type. I'd love to get everything working 100%, but if I am going down a dangerous path here then I'll just stop. The game works great otherwise and if the WILLIAMS lights don't work, not the biggest deal (since they still show on the digital display when awarded and when I play the game I am usually not focusing on that award).
