Where do you RCT owners get a correctly sized ring kit?

I tried titan silicone but the rings are mostly too small. The stern manual says that the longest rings on the game are 2 inch. That's just wrong. There's no way the slingshot rings are 2 inch.

Alos, has anyone added an OCD LED board after adding LEDs? Is it worth the extra $120?

Does anyone have a correct size list for the rubbers?

#126 5 years ago
Quoted from CoolCatPinball:

I created a ring kit on Titans website. I ordered a complete set for mine. I had no issues with fitment. If you look on titans website, i just refreshed the kit. I also installed Cointaker premium non ghosting LEDS and personally, I see no need for the OCD board. [quoted image]

You made the kit from the ring measurements listed in the manual right? Can you post a pic of your slingshots with the 2" rings installed?

Unfortunately, I ordered your kit exactly but it has a lot of incorrect sizes. The pics I posted above are of your rings next to the original stern rings that came off my game. It had never been re-ringed.

The slingshots and the other larger ring on the right middle area are not 2 inch. Sure, you can stretch the heck out of them and make them fit but it's not ideal. The star posts are so tight that they stretch enough to turn the blue into a whitish color. The pointed metal minipost rings come in 2 thicknesses 3/16 & 27/64. Your kit uses the thinnest one (3/16) and when it's stretched over the post, it ends up being too thin. It needs the thicker ones. There's a bunch of other rubbers that are wrong too.

Quoted from Wildcat_33:

I picked up a rubber kit for RCT from Marco Specialties. Haven't used it yet, but will be interesting to see if they fit or not.

I've ordered a kit from marco too. Waiting on it now. I ordered a kit from the gameroomguys on ebay. It arrived today and they use the same sizes as what's in the manual. I don't know of ANY slingshot ring on any stern pinball game that's 2". That is tiny.

Can you tell me what size marco includes for the 3 large rings? Please tell me they're not 2". LOL

#129 5 years ago
Quoted from Wildcat_33:

Just went and cracked it open. Included inside is a printout from the manual and yes, I believe the 3 large rings are 2".[quoted image]

Bummer. Those will work but they're gonna be super tight. The 3 larger rings are supposed to be 2.5 inch on RCT. If you look at the playboy manual (game made the same year as rct 2002) you'll see they specify 2.5" rings for the slings. The slings on the playboy and rct are exactly the same. The RCT manual is wrong and perpetuates incorrect rubber rings being put on all RCTs.

So, what happens is the very 1st person to shop the RCT will order and receive the ring kit with the wrong sizes but probably not even realize it. They'll stretch those too small rubbers and make them work because they don't know any better. Each time the game is shopped in the future, it gets incorrect rubber rings over and over because the manual is wrong and sellers aren't smart enough to update their rubber kits & game owners assume sellers are providing the correct sizes. Everyone needs to go check their RCT rings and see if they're all too tight. The game will play much differently with too small rings that are stretched to the limit.

I just ordered almost $400 worth of bulk white rubbers (in every size) from marco so I don't have to go through this hassle again.

My RCT is a 1 owner HUO game that had NEVER been shopped so all the rings are original. My pics above are of the original rings next to the rings that the manual specifies. They're totally wrong. Don't believe everything you read.

When I brought this to the attention of the gameroomguys on ebay and titan pinball they both say the SAME THING... we got our sizes straight from the manual so we can't be wrong. I'm sure marco would say the same thing if asked.

#131 5 years ago
Quoted from Titan_Pinball:

Actually, we said that the manual is often incorrect and we update our ring kit database when incorrect sizes are brought to our attention.
Thank you for all of your input, we will update our database accordingly.
Thank you,
Heather

It's great that you s.a.y that but I bet if I order a kit for RCT next week, I'm gonna get the same exact rubbers from the manual. The game is 17 years old. No one has complained about the too small rubbers in the RCT kit in all that time? Really? Hard to believe. Meanwhile, I have a stripped RCT sitting inoperational on the floor of my arcade for over a week because of a rubber ring kit. Life is too short. Ain't nobody got time for that!

Quoted from Titan_Pinball:
Did you use 2 1/2" rings? ALL Stern games need 2 1/2" for the slings regardless of what the manual says.

You said this on pinside over 2 years ago yet you're still shipping stern ring kits with 2" rubbers for the slingshots. UGH! You're killing me.

RCT manual says 2" but it's supposed to be 2.5 inch. You know this.

#135 5 years ago
Quoted from Titan_Pinball:

Exactly.
And we said this 50 days ago

And this disclaimer pops up for EVERY kit purchase. You yourself clicked on it when you bought that kit: [quoted image]

Nobody reads disclaimers. And it wouldn't have kept me from buying the kit anyway.

Checking the sizes of the rings in the kits you sell is YOUR responsibility not mine. As a consumer, I expect that you have done everything in your power to make certain you're selling me the correct rings my game needs. Allowing any tom dick or harry to post up ring kits at will, unchecked and then making me click a box that says it's my fault that the rings might be the wrong size... is bullcrap.

#138 5 years ago
Quoted from Titan_Pinball:

Almost every Stern game since 2001 and maybe older calls for a 2" slingshot in the manual.

That's not true. There's more that specify 2.5" than the 2". Here's just a few I looked up.

2001 high roller casino 2.5"
2001 Austin powers 2.5"
2002 playboy states 2.5"
2003 T3 states 2.5"
2003 LOTR 2.5"

etc. etc. etc.

#140 5 years ago

I ordered almost $400 of all sizes of rubbers from marco yesterday. They arrived this AM! No more screwing around with "kits" that are put together using the sometimes incorrect manual sizes. My game is about 50% shopped and LED'ed now. Waiting on pinball life LED britecaps shipment so I can finish.

RCT owners who bought (or will buy in the future) a rubber kit undoubtedly got (or will get) many wrong sizes. I got a kit from titan, gameroomguys (on ebay) and marco directly and ALL sizes were taken from the manual. At the very least, you need three 2.5" rings not the three 2" rings that all kits send. Yes, you can stretch a 2" rubber in place of a 2.5" but it's not right and will play different.

Quoted from Pinballlew:

Awesome, when you rerubber the RCT it would be cool if you wrote all the sizes down and posted them here so we could all update our manuals.

Will do. Mid shop pic. Should finish up tomorrow if led brite-caps arrive.

scribbles those fit like my 2" titan rings did. Yes, they will work but they're 1/2" too short. Look at where the ring curves around the star post... see how it is stretched so tight that it's a lot thinner than the rest of the ring? The orange ring is so tight that it looks like you could pluck an audible tune on it. Like the slingshot rings, it works, the balls bounce off but not as intended from the factory.

Titan themselves posted this on pinside about 2 years ago. They're not wrong... the RCT & RBION manuals are.

Quoted from Titan_Pinball:
"Did you use 2 1/2" rings? ALL Stern games need 2 1/2" for the slings regardless of what the manual says."

If you're happy with it, that's all that matters.
