Have any of you tried to use an LED version of the 24 inch long F20T12CW fluorescent lamp in the backbox? My bulb is burned out and was curious about just moving to LED version..

New member to this group. I'm currently in the process of shopping a heavily routed machine. I am in search of a new to me subway trough. Part #545-6057. The one in my machine has half the edge broke off and is being supported by a wire currently. I would be willing to use someone's 3D printed test trough if you are making one.

A reminder in Thread Post 309, I advertised with pictures a RCT NOS Playfield for sale. I still have it in case anyone is looking. Thanks!

Did you end up doing this? Sounds like a great idea and I’d also love to see the results!

Quoted from GLSP3022:

The target is supposed to fall. It prevents a ball from getting trapped behind it. The center target only stays up in a couple modes.

I’m so happy I found this post. The same thing happens to me and I also thought this was a problem with the machine. You just saved me a big headache!

Hello from Montana, new RCT owner. I believe I have sample game number 1, mine is signed on the bottom by Pat Lawlor. I am still trying to verify this is authentic. I have emailed Stern with pictures and they said they will contact Mr. Lawlor to verify. Still waiting. Anyway, my game is very dirty after spending who know how many years in a bowling alley without much attention. Many broken parts I am replacing as I clean it up. Part of the problem might have been the owners manual included was a "sample" version without several sections included. Whoever was maintaining the game might not have noticed that. the regular manual has all the right information. More posts coming.

3 bank drop target repairs. Only one target was intact when I got it. Removed, disassembled, cleaned, put in new springs, drop targets and decals. Had to adjust the height in relation to the playfield when the targets are all down. 2 hours start to finish.

1 bank drop target repairs. There was no drop target in my game, just clear tape over the opening. Easy repairs with new parts, less than an hour.

Tale of woe with the ball deflector up post in the left orbit. Mine did not work, the up post was binding in the playfield thru hole. After disassembly and repairs, I found that the playfield plywood is cracked and bulging a good amount where the single screw attaches the bracket. The deformed wood caused the bracket to tilt and up post rubbed hard in the hole. When the up post is in the upper position, it is not centered in the ball path. Every ball impact imparts a lateral force to the post in a direction towards the player. It looks to me that repeated force in that direction has leveraged the single screw to pull out from the playfield underside. Hard to describe, but easy to see the results. My game is a very early model, perhaps later games were different?? Anyway, I tried to push all the plywood back but no luck. I ended up adding 3 flat washers under the opposite side of the bracket to get it perpendicular to the playfield and added a second screw on the single screw side. There is a lot of stuff happening in this corner and someone already had to move the insert light. Now the up post moves up and down much better and does not rub the playfield hole.

Nice find I wonder if Stern will answer you back because Pat works for another pinball company.

#411 1 year ago

Very cool, congrats!

Do you gave the older version of the Flying Turns? No cirlce thing at the end to control the ball.

#412 1 year ago

I have the early version of the Rocket up kick housing without the wire gate at the top, but I am not familiar yet with "flying turns". Is that one of the colored wire forms? Is it related to the "flying ghost"?

Yes, but it's the red one. The early version didn't have the stopper thing at the end (like in the pic of your blue and yellow ones), so the ball would fly off at the end rather than dropping. A friend had one like that and ended up buying the new version...

Just an FYI for RCT owners with a right ramp that is getting beat up (nearly everuone has this issue over time). Cliffy has a fix!!! It's not like his traditional playfield mounted scoop protectors, it's a fairly meaty protector for the SIDE WALLS of the acrylic ramp itself. It comes with mounting screws and everything to install over the top of the ramp itself. Here's a picture from cliff's site.

My Cliffy package arrived today! I bought every item he had for RCT. His products are top notch, I have used them on other games.

Yes, my red ramp is different on both ends than the one shown on Marco. $81 is probably too much for me right now, I'm getting in deeper and deeper as I find more stuff broken. Over $350 in parts so far.....

The ramp protector kit fits and looks pretty nice! You will likely have some difficulty with the TOP screws on each of the metal protectors which are supposed to be drilled into the ramp itself. On my machine, the left ramp was very inaccessible so I could drill it, and the right ramp hole would have been in direct conflict with a screw directly in the exact same spot under the existing ramp. I ended up using Gorilla tape to adhere the top points on both ramps, and the rest of the kit on the lower contact points.

Good luck...

Just joined the club. I'm loving RCT. Set on the hardest settings it's really fun. I decided to do a nod to another Lawler game and 3d print Rudy for the dunk tank.
I'd rather "dunk this dummy"

I don’t recall having any trouble with my install of them. But then again, I had the whole game apart when I did it, so everything was completely exposed.

Well I have Rudy finished. Who knows what horrors he did to that troll?

That's really awesome! I have trolls for every holiday I swap out. Ironically, every once in a great while the dummy says "I am very not happy with you right now". I believe this may be a hidden tribute to Rudy.

Thanks, that's exactly why I put him in there. And the laugh when you drain. Rudy seemed fitting.

Titan rubbers came today. So I decided to clean it all up and flame polish the ramps while I had it apart.

OK, first things freaking first: the ramps look stinking *terrific*. Nice job flame-polishing them. Stellar.

Second: I really, really, honestly thought that the Rudy troll thing was a bad idea when you presented it earlier, but said nothing so as not to be a twit about it, you know? But honestly, now that I see it in there, it doesn't really look out of place to me! The colors fit, and even though the voice for him will be wrong, I'm not terribly mad about this one. Good job.

Just wish the entire machine was better overall for that kind of effort, you know? And yes, I own one.

I agree, it isn't a super great game. Mainly because of piss poor code. It is pretty fun though, and shoots fantastic.
With all the stuff going on in the playfield, wireforms etc. I feel it's the closest Stern ever came to making something that feels like a Williams pin.

It's probably only "feels" like a Williams to me because Pat Lawlor designing it though.
It's more or less just a pretty good under rated Lawlor pin.
And I'm totally fine with that.

These are very fair statements. You are, indeed, correct: the code stinking *destroys* the play of that machine. It. Is. So. Awful. I mean, the most difficult shot in the entire game goes absolutely *ignored*. How is that even possible? It's definitely one of those "This could have been *so* much more/better." deals.

Sounds like someone needs to plug in a P-ROC board and write some deeper rules.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has balls getting stuck on top of the R&D targets?

It seems like a design flaw, I can't find any pictures of anything stopping it from happening online.
Is there something missing?

I've only had the game really playing for a week and it's happened 3 times.
This is a test piece I 3d printed to stop it. The actual one will be a bit different.
So far all the targets work and the ball can't sit up there anymore.

I don't think I've had one stuck there in the 4 years I've had the machine. I wonder if something is a bit off on yours. At any rate, nice Funhouse sign!

I'm not too sure if something is wrong, it seems to be happening mainly after a certain hard hit to the dummy drops when the ball bounces off. Basically when knocking them down. Usually from a shot from the upper right flipper.
I do have all my coils set to hard fire though.
Maybe just hitting too hard, and a weird bounce?
Playfield is level right to left and set in bubble.

I did take a look at mine last night and balls can potentially get stuck there. Just never happens for whatever reason. Maybe less of a gap on mine?

#433 1 year ago

I never had a ball get stuck there. Must be an adjustment or alignment issue causing this. Maybe mount a camera and record during game play.

#434 1 year ago

Never seen that happen at any time on any RCT I've played. Odd, that.

#435 1 year ago

Joining the club

Mine just got a Pin2DMD installed. Instead of the original acrylic cover, I created a new one in gray and some foam rubber to cover the area outside the display area.
Just putting the display brightness to maximum works well.

I figured it out. I was cleaning stuff and finally noticed... Like an idiot, I put the tapered silicone post sleeves upsidedown. Of course Launching the balls up if hit really hard. IReversed them, and now so far so good.

Nice job on finding out what was causing it.

#438 1 year ago

Having a problem with mine now. It behaves a bit strange. Sometimes, when starting a new games it says "Ball saved" and auto-launches the ball - even though no ball had been played. Also the fun modes get activated and started randomly.
Switch test show no strange behavior. All switches that I could think of seems to work well. Any idea?

P.S. I updated the display ROM, but I wouldn't expect that this has any impact on the game itself. But I might still try the old ROM instead if nobody has a better idea.

Put the old ROM back in and try it. The ROMs (game and display) usually need to be matched, and if you have old ROMS, you probably want to spend the $20 to get Matt's Basement to ship you a new set (two chips) anyway...

#440 1 year ago

Same issue with the old ROM. These are not "old" anyway. Therefore, the problem has to be something else. Any other idea?

#441 1 year ago
Quoted from usul27:

Sounds like an opto issue. Might be dropping out. The ball trough has 2 optos, #1 Position and the anti-jam position. Fun modes are activated by the opto behind the drop target.
Those seem to be your problem areas. I think they are on the 12v circuit. Do you have a colorDMD or any other mods that could be stressing the 12v rail?

Also check the opto boards themselves for "cold solder" joints. They are notorious for this.

#442 1 year ago

Hmm, the Pin2DMD. I'll have a look at this. As everything seemed to run stable with the display on 12V, I didn't use an external 12V power supply. Thanks for the tip.

#443 1 year ago

I know adding "toys" isn't for everyone'. Ive just been on kind of a 3d printer rampage for RCT. It's a great theme to add a few. Why not build your own park. Lol. Not sure if I'll keep them all in. But, here are a couple other random things I printed for RCT besides Rudy. Next up I'm going to try maybe a dunk tank or something that doesn't Block the (C) lane view.

Hello again from Montana. I have gotten back to the RCT cleanup after several weeks away. Got the two ramps removed and man is it dirty underneath! Lots of ground in black dirt along the ball tracks and everywhere else is super dusty. 100_5281 (resized).JPG100_5284 (resized).JPG100_5285 (resized).JPG100_5286 (resized).JPGAlso cleaning and polishing all the metal pieces.100_5304 (resized).JPG My 7 year old granddaughter is now helping me and does a pretty good job of polishing the plastic pieces.
